Accuracy of due dates

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with the following quandary....

I know someone who is pregnant and claims she is 100% certain who the father is, although at the time she conceived she had unprotected sex with two seperate men in the space of two weeks. However, she claims that she had a period in between these two men and is sure it is man no.2's baby.

When she announced she was pregnant I had a feeling that it was actually man no.1's baby and that when baby comes earlier than expected she will claim that it is premature. As expected she has two months to go and is now making noises that she has feeling baby is ready to come. She is absolutely huge, and although I know that means nothing, as some women don't show until the end and some show from 6weeks, I wondered exactly how accurate a dating scan is - potentially could she get away with telling man no.2 that the baby is his when it may not be? (He is not aware of how recent man no.1 was).

a dating scan at 12 weeks is usually accurate to a few days. has man number 2 seen her notes though?

I doubt he has seen them; they are no longer together. I am only assuming that she is telling people the truth in what the medical staff have told her, and I seriously doubt anything that comes out of her mouth. I guess if she is telling the truth then man no.2 is the father.

if they have split i would suggest he gets a dna test done once baby arrives

From personal experience, I dont entirely trust dating scans. The reason being is when I was expecting the first time round, I was given 2 totally different dates. I had my first scan at 16 weeks due to me finding out quite late on I was in fact pregnant. From that scan I was told 26th December. At my 2nd scan, I was told 6th January. Actually it couldve been the other way round lo, It was a long time ago but you get the idea. Two scans, two dates. They decided to go by the first scan and gave me the due date of 26th December (boxing day!) I was induced after going 10 days over and having no signs or indications of ever going into labour! Baby was born 5th January. The first the midwife said was "she looks like an early baby". I explained about the dates and asked if maybe her due date shouldve been the 6th January and she said it was possible.

The period she said she had between the two, couldve been implantation bleeding.

Like red says, both men should ask for a DNA test!

This would lead to the second part of the dilemma..... do I have a moral duty to advise him it mightn't be his? Man no.1 is engaged and his second baby was born in April this year (he was sleeping with female in question when engaged to marry someone else), man no.2 is single and childless and spending money hand over fist on unborn baby that he believes is his. I could potentionally destroy several lives.

If baby belongs to man no.1 then I am sure there will be a few raised eyebrows as the children (the one that is due and the one that was born by his partner earlier this year) will start the same school in the same year and possibly look pretty similar too.....

if hes a really good friend then yes try and tell him. It be worse for him if he bonded with this child only to find out in future that it wasnt his. What would mum do if she met someone else or fell out with him, could she throw it back in his face?

Well what youve added explains why shes saying man 2 is definately the dad!

i dont trust dating scans either,when having my son i was told i my dates said the 28th of july but when i had my scans they said he would be early,nearer early june. when he was born on the 1st august they said that the scans were wrong he was just a big boned baby!!!

I would advice you ladies to only sleep with sterilized males. That way you can be sure not to get pregnant.
