I have been reading through a post on the subject of spelling and grammar and i have two points.

(1) Good spelling and good grammar is not linked to intelligence, i know of several people with masters degrees who cannot spell for toffee.

(2) Academic qualifications are also not an indicator of intelligence, i know of several people who are incredibly well qualified academically but have not one ounce of common sense.

Academic qualifications mean you have a good memory it does not equate to pure intelligence.

Obsessional behaviour towards others poor grammar smacks of insecurity and a mild form of ocd, there are more important things on planet earth.

Hav a nic daay.

I never ever comment on grammar as mine is probably one of the worst examples of it on the site, but what you said is very true when I was at school I was always being told how thick I was but the truth is they never asked me anything that I knew.
My spelling isn't too bad but my handwriting is awful. I write very quickly and it ends up a mess. The other day wrote something for somebody at work and said my writing was awful. Its a bit embarrassing actually.
Mudflap well said .There are a few insecure peepul here for shure.

have a nic daay too

Raysparx i have observed your posts you have a very wide and varied knowledge base and that does not change simply because you forget to put a letter in a sentence.

Have you seen most doctors handwriting? it is a mess but they have more important duties than writing as if by stencil, once again another bug bear of mine is whinging about others handwriting, it does not matter one jot.
I think I'm dyslexic. As you can see from above I have missed some words out of my sentences.
Dyslexic people are often very intelligent. Except maybe Tom Cruise.

Ah NEWSDIDDY you would appear to be the missing link , and prove mudflaps point perfectly.

DIDDDY THAT HELP YIIEEEE THE NOOOOOOOOOO?
.......well said Mudders.............a friend of mine is so dyslexic he regularly beats spell checkers...........they just give up..................yet you couldn't find anyone with more common sense...........................
1) No they're not. But I see no reason to be smug that you can't spell aor take the mick out of those that either can or bother to do so. Not being able to spell or writing as you speak makes you no more genuine to me than those that make an effort to do so as some seem to think it does.

2) Having common sense does not make you intelligent either. Most rats can navigate a maze with suitable training. Again, being smug about having no academic qualifications but having common sense is nowt to shout home about.

Personally, a balance of all these things is what most people on this site seem to display and that's the best thing in my opinion. Plus point scorring off peoples intelligence/spelling/common sense etc or being smug because you've just attended the 'university of life' isn't all that bright. We all bring different offerings, I suspect some peoples offerings are less wanted than others but I suspect that has little to do with spelling, intelligence, grammar or common sense.

Exactly China Doll my point was merely that spelling and grammar are no more significant than anything else and to be so pedantic as to point it out to people is somewhat arrogant and needless, that is all.

hop you sundaay is a gud one.
I agree with you mudflap I am slightly dyslexic, but that don't men I don't know how to do other things...

it's also always worth thinkin that anyone on here, English may not be their first language, and if it isn't then I am sure they are doing better with English than I could with their language!!
sara3 you is call obsessive, insecure and said to have ocd.
whiffey you is always pointing out leggy and knobynuts mistcake you mus be the same as sara. lol lol at you obsessive silly scholars.

Cheers mudflap, thats real nice.

Clever, please give me time to work it out, be back in about a week,ok.

I think China has summed it up well, we all know different things, everybody has lots of knowledge inside them, could be music, football or anything but we all have a role to play.

it would be interesting to know if an employer will choose a CV with poor grammar and spelling. i bet they won't. but then you will be the exception mudflap.
no they probably wouldn't, but you'd proof read your CV and get somebody else to check it if you know your spelling and grammar to be suspect..
hooray china doll! i really like what you said. to me it make so much sense. i hope whiffey and the likes sees this.
bravo china doll! you're a doll, doll.
