what to wear?
10 Answers
I'm 17 weeks pregnant and my clothes are starting to get too tight. It feels too early to buy maternity clothes (most people wouldn't even know I was pg). I've considered buying normal clothes in a bigger size but it seems a bit of a waste as I'll eventually grow out of them and then (hopefully!) they won't fit after the pregnancy. My main problem is work clothes. What did you wear when you first started to show?

Check out all the sales at the moment, next do nice work trousers in maternity and i think a lot are on sale at moment.

Lots of nice modern and pretty tunic tops around at the moment asteroid which you can team with skirts, trousers or leggins. Bigger size clothes won't look right as they won't fit properly on the shoulders and will make you look frumpy. If you usually wear really high heels, I would buy some new ones with a lower heel and high heels can make preggy ladies walk very awkwardly. Keep your clothes fairly simply but also trendy.
Please don't wear hipster trousrs and crop tops! which fortunately seem to be around less than they have been for the past few years. They just look tacky.
What a lovely time of year to be pregnant. I wish you well.

Oh god - there'll be no crop tops - I'm with you on that one LoftyLottie!
Someone at work suggested tunic tops and leggings but I'm not sure where to get leggings from (not something I would usually wear). Any suggestions?
I'm ok with tops, because, as Redcrx says theres loads of floaty tops around and I have a lot of empire line tops already.

Hi asteroid!
I'm 18 weeks and I was having the same probs until about two weeks ago when I suddenly got a proper bump almost overnight! My normal stuff was very uncomfortable and I had to invest in a pair of blck maternity trousers for work. I agree with red though, I've found quite a few pairs of jeans and trousers in the sales. Particularly Next. tops not a problem though cos of the floaty styles around. Do you know anyone who could lend you a few bits until you feel ready to start buying maternity stuff?

I think you can buy something that attaches to your normal jeans/trousers so you can keep them up but without fastening them if you know what I mean! You could also try a hair bobble it would do the same thing, only you would have to wear a long top to cover it. Try thebabycatalogue.co.uk they sell them.
i was the same i was showing almost straight away, i was lucky because smock tops were everywhere when i was pregnant so they were perfect and i can still wear them now. i bought cheap clothes in bigger sizes (peacocks and supermarkets) and trust me unless your really lucky your normal clothes wont fit you for a while after having the baby so you will get a few months worth out of them(i have a 7 month old and walk most days and breastfeed which helps loose weight and i still have a few pounds to go - although i can get in most of old clothes) . i also used tummy bands which you can wear with your normal elastic wasted trousers and t shirts and they bridge the gap. ther just big bits of elastic material. and you can get these other things that extend the waste of your trousers didnt try myself but if you go on the bumpto3 website they have them in there catalogue (or i bet they have some on ebay) hope this helps
