The stop smoking tablet
14 Answers
I've recently started taking the stop smoking tablet called Champix - and I wondered if anyone else had tried it. Did you have any side effects and did it work for you? Thanks

Well they worked for me, I havn't smoked for four years now....in fact I am your typical ex-smoker, I cannot stand the smell of fags now.
best of luck to you....and don't stop trying to give it up even if these don't work for you.

It can cause psychological problems in people who continue to smoke cannabis whilst using it to stop smoking tobacco. This is due to the way the tablet works by releasing the hormone dopamine, which binds to the nicotine receptors and negates the need for a nicotine "hit". Dopamine does not mix well with cannabis.
My hubby has stopped smoking with champix, and I'm waiting for my local smoking cessation service to ring back to get on them myself!!
Let us know how it goes daisycup, good luck!!

Do not wish to be "negative" however I have known friends on this treatment. Out of 4 of them 3 went on to be treated for severe depression. Please check carefully ALL the reviews regarding this drug on the internet - beforre deciding to use it. They too said it was amazing in that they actually had no inclination to smoke, but you have to be aware of possible side effects. Regarding my friends - interesting to note that none of them had ever suffered from even mild depression before trying to give up smoking.

Thanks. My doctor did advise me of the side effects, one of them possible depression. So far I'm into day 3 now and the only symptoms I've had is slight dizziness. My doctor advise as soon as I feel uncomfortable or depressed I should stop it. I go back for my check-up next week but at the moment its all good.
My husband has just stopped with them and apart from feeling a bit dodgy appetite wise while he was on the tablets themselves, he has had no problems and no urge to smoke, and now he's off the tablets his appetite is back and he feels great. As far as the depression thing goes - I know people who have stopped cold turkey and ended up with depression and even panic attacks - so its not necessarily the tablets but maybe the stopping smoking which has contributed.
