They are probably making thousands per week and he probably wouldn't have cleaned your car properly anyway, but playing on your guilt, you would still have given him the money anyway.
It's a scam because they are making money from others through deception, by playing on emotions, whether it's greed or pity.

dont you think it says alot about our current state of culture? i mean, the first thing we think about is that this is a scam. we have to remember we dont actually "know" for sure if this was a scam. he might have been genuine who knows? are we right to go judging instantly?
regardless of my own comments - i am a hypocrite! lol! :P i would reckon he'd be on his bike as soon as i gave him the cash - if he did start washing my car id be paranoid thinking he's gonna smash the window and steal it as soon as my backs turned!
i remember when i was a kid and my mum gave me some change to give to an "apparent" homless guy - we came walking past just before dark and saw him get into one of his mates car - a frickin sports car! i dunno what kind but i remember well it looks very similar to a red ferrari! lesson learned - case closed! atleast for me personally.

Many yrs ago a guy called and gave me a note saying he was deaf and dumb. He cut hedges for five pounds was I interested?
I replied as a reaction, "Five quid?"
and he immediately replied "Yeah five!"
Within a second he was running down the drive like a long dog. Reminded me of the escape war film when the gestapo man says to Gordon Jackson "Good luck" and he replied "Thanks."
