Funeral information
15 Answers
I have suffered a family bereavement this morning.
What is the timescale, etc. for funerals ?
The family are currently make arrangements but I would be grateful if anyone can give me an indication of when the funeral will take place ?
Please only give helpful replies as I really don't want to have to explain the small details.
Thankyou

Timescales can vary. If there is to be a postmortem then it may be a few days before the body is released. Then family will need to make arrangements for the funeral.
I would expect at earliest perhaps monday of next week.
A funeral directors will be able to help the family further

Thankyou, redcrx, yo are very kind....
She died in hospital of a condition she was being treated for so I'm not sure a PM will be necessary.
Her family (she was my s-i-l) will be making arrangements although there is some debate about where and what she actually wanted.........and I suppose the next thing I will hear will be the date itself. I don't want to bother them by asking what and where they are thinking, but, at the same time, I need to start clearing my diary and making my own arrangements.
God, that sounds a little callous written down, sorry.

it doesnt sound callous at all, you are wanting to make sure youre able to be there to say your goodbyes, not to ensure that it doesnt effect your diary.
There wont be a PM as you say as she has been treated in hospital.
It really is going to be up to the family now to arrange the date and let you know. Perhaps try and call them in 2 days and see if they have an idea of date and where to send flowers (if you were planning to). Im sure by then they will know and will be happy to talk to you. Im not sure how she is connected to you in marriage (your brothers wife or your husband sister etc. but perhaps the connection will also help keep the information flowing.
I hope all the family is suppotive towards each other and all goes well

Sorry to hear of your loss and no you dont sound callous just being practical.
I would have thought in the case of a death when a detailed PM was not the case -you would be looking at Monday -I know the Crems do Saturdays.I should think it would only be delayed past that if other family members had to travel from farther afield.

That's the trouble, I don't know whether to try and shift everything to the end of next week, leaving the start free or vice versa.
As I have appointments already made, at the convenience of my clients, I think it only courteous to give them as much warning as possible in the event of rescheduling............and you'd be surprised at just how any people aren't as sympathetic as you might wish, in circumstances such as these............:o(

please accept my condolences. As the death occurred today I would say it will be at least a week before the funeral. I would try to keep Tuesday onwards of next week free if at all possible until you have the exact date.
My father died on a Tuesday and it was 10 days before the funeral, he died in hospital and there was no PM but it was just due to the high death rate that month (April this year).
If the death was today the family can contact the funeral director of choice tomorrow and get things moving but need to visit the hospital to collect the paperwork for the funeral director to start putting things in place. They should be able to do this tomorrow (wednesday) and the hospital should have told the family this today. Having been through all this only 3 months ago, if you or your family need any advice on the paperwork side of things I am happy to help. the family will need a death certificate and it is a good idea to buy an extra 2 or three as they are needed for many things afterwards. I do hope all goes well and again please accept all my good wishes at this time.
