Special Birthday present??

Hi Everyone!

I could do with some help...I have a male family member who is about to celebrate their 60th birthday but im having a problem in knowing what to get!!

He doesnt have any particular hobby and not a massive football fan..he's not looking forward to his special birthday but i would still like to get a special gift..

Most men of 60 would like a 'trophy bird'?

Give him a day as a slave to Geri Halliwell......or Peggy of Eastender?

A packet of 'grow ur own' courgettes/carrots/cucumbers....just to see how long and straight he can get them.

A one way ticket to Thailand?

The price range doesnt matter but he isnt a driver so any car related thing wouldnt be suitable...he's got the trophy bird so he doesnt need that.:)

I know it's a bit cliche, but how about a silver ale tankard with a message engraved on it. It's something to remember and can sit on the mantle or shelf for years to come.

Its hard when they have no hobbys however, all people at age 60 will have a heath issue back, feet, ect ect giving a gift that will make them feel better like a back massger that he can sit in a chair and use after a long day or a foot bath anything that makes life more comfortable is a great gift.

Some really nice aftershave or cllothes or vouchers so he can pick himself.

Does he like particular films or genres? My dad likes westerns and war things so in the past we've got him thinks like box sets for the American Civil War and Band of Brothers.

Even though he's not a massive football fan something like a trip to Old Trafford can be fantastic even though they're not football mad. I'm taking my dad and me and Neil have been and loved it despite not being footie fans.

Does he have a favourite tipple like whisky?

Is there something he doesn't have like a DVD player, freeview player or DAB radio if he listens to the radio a lot (we got one for dad as he's in the garden a lot).

If he's a big family person you could get a voucher for a picture to be done or collect piccies of him over the ages and make an album or slideshow.

You don't have to go with one big thing, you could go for lots of little things like a bottle of drink, CD, DVD...

If all else fails then ask him, better to get something he wants and I'm sure he will be getting lots of other presents so why not have one he can chose himself.

f money is not a problem get him a DS lite console + dr kawashima's brain training - its great fun and in my (limited) experience, slightly older people love trying to compete to be "younger" in brain age My mum is always texting me and saying "i was 27 today"

one christmas our sons bought us a row of vines in a french vineyard for 12 months. the gift came with all the information about it and two bottles of wine with personalised labels. also the ability to buy more of the wines from the vineyard at a reduced price and with labels that we personalised ourselves. we visited 'our' vines personally in france but there is no need to, it can all be done online or by phone. we thought it was a great gift and so does anyone we've told about it. it's quite nice to give a bottle of 'our'wine to special friends.

When my dad turned sixty, we paid for us all to go on a trip on the Orient Express. We had a lovely lunch on the train and were treated like royalty. IT was a great day out. Or you could pay for a theatre trip to London/New York etc.

i think the newspaper idea is great, i might do that for a family member myself (have you the website lacey-g please?)
how about a helicopter/small plane ride for him where he takes over the controls? we done that for my dad for his 50th and he loved it. another member of the family was invited to accompany him.
or how about going up in a hot air balloon? we did that for my mums 50th, it was an amazing experience. we landed in a corn field just as the sun was setting and were all given a glass of champagne with a certificate, it was really lovely.
or how about a nice little digital camera if he hasnt already got one?

a years subscription for the national trust? lots of nice days out to some lovely places of interest for him.
