Cold/flu like symptons after exercise

I am shortly going to get back into weightlifting which I havent done for a year or so now. Previously when starting an exercise routine of this nature, and lifting particularly heavy weights, I have notice that almost invariably,I've been hit with a heavy cold a couple of weeks into the programme.

I do not know if heavy weightlifting weakens the immune system temporarily, but perhaps this is it?

Does anynone know if there is any reason why this happens and how can i stop it?

the only reason i can think of is you may be over-training.
