Severe fear of flying
39 Answers
I have a severe fear of flying. I am going to Turkey next week and despite the doctor prescribing diazepam I know that this won't really help. Does anyone have any successful tips on dealing with panic attacks or fear of flying in general? I'm determined this won't stop me from travelling but very distressed when it actually comes to getting on the plane!

doolaly I am the same to be honest and I got a flight soon 12 hours. I just pop the pills and get drunk. I am still scared but very passively. On a long haul flight back from Thailand I was so out of it I must have passed out and I woke up in 1st class. They then just left me there for the rest of the flight.
My friend is the same and his wife is Aussie, so they fly there quite a lot. he gets sleeping tablets from his doctor and takes half before the flight and if he walks up before the end of the flight takes another, not the best way but at least it gets him there. Maybe a mild sedative other than valium or diazipam
Or you could ask to sit with the pilot and have a go at the controls

Look at it pragmatically ...
1. Flying is statistically the safest means of travel.
2. You are more likely to have an accident on your way to the airport than you are whilst on your flight.
3. If you have a car accident, you have a stay in hospital, and a long, painful period of recovery. If you have a plane accident, you are instantly, and painlessly, incinerated, or smashed into teeny pieces.
