I woke up this morning with pains in my neck, directly below my ears. I presume it's the glands. Does this mean I have some kind of infection? It hurts more when I open my mouth.

I also had a bit of dry coughing in the night and a couple of times this morning. I always get a bit worried when my glands are sore, as I think I have Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, even though I don't really know what the symptoms of this are.

Velvetee I'm sure it will prove to be nothing more than a viral infection of some kind particularly as you have other such related symptoms (cough). Try not to jump to the worst scenario conclusions (we've all done it!) See how it goes and if you continue to be worried go and see your GP who would give you a blood test if he/she was worried.
Velvetee, many people get these symptoms (lost count of the times I've had them) which are generally due to minor ailments - sore throat, cold coming on etc. However, as Yogasun advises, try not to worry but do go to your GP if the symptoms continue or get worse over the next couple of days.
Sounds like the plague to me. Do you have large pustules under your armpits by any chance?

Thanks Yoga and Cartoon. Strangely, the underside of my upper arm feels really sore, as though I have an abrasion, but there's nothing there.
velvetee you also have glands in that area of your armpit!!!
Are there people currently bricking up your doorway shouting "unclean" while painting big crosses on your doors?

Yes I know Puddicat, the soreness is not in my armpit, it's the underside of my upper arm, (Tricep area), not muscular though.
Swollen lymph nodes happen when the body is fighting off an infection. If they are still swollen after 2 weeks, or you have other symptoms as well (such as fever, fatigue, weight loss) then see your GP.
