I didn't go on my evening out because my mother texted me to say that my grandparents (in their 80s) had been burgled and it kind of put a dampner on things.
Grandad had been outside in the garden and came in at 6 for his tea and a bit of TV. He went to go out at 7 and walked past his bedroom to see it in disarray. He asked Nanna what she had been doing in there and she came and it dawned that while they were in their front room, some little sh1t had walked in their side door and down to their bedrooms, turned both rooms over and nicked grandad's savings (500 - not a lot to some people to OAP's a damn fortune), HIS WAR MEDALS which he earned fighting in WW2 (unlike the sh!t who has nicked them, who has probably never done an honest day's work in his life and spent taxpayer's money shooting it up his arm), my grandmother's jewellery (including her engagement ring which grandad had saved his army pay and bought her - none of which has any real value other than sentimental value) and their pension (which was in her handbag).
Police would not leave them because they are both in a terrible state so my mother has had to go over and call a doctor out to my grandmother who is feeling unwell.
Have also had to issue firm legal advice to my mother after she made a number of threats to the perpetrators (if they are ever caught), that she absolutely must not take the law into her own hands, at least til me and my brother arrive with a 10lb lump hammer. I want to scream "pick on me you effing barstewards, not elderly folk who have worked hard all their damn lives and added something to this country, unlike you ever will".
I think thats the lowest of the low,to have that terrible thing done to your grandparents.
How would they like it if somebody stole from their grandparents?
If they do catch the culprits, they will probably only get a piffling fine and perhaps a community service,or short prison sentence.I don't know, what is the world coming to?
My sincerest thoughts are with you and your grandparents.
Yeah but the flaw with that Wardyis that some people would avoid looking in the mirror. You what to know WHERE I am gonna shove that lump hammer?!!!!!!!! lol
Awww...that made awful reading, Barmaid.
The scumbags that did it only pick on the weak and defenceless. Hope they get run over by a bus when they run off from their next crime. x
IF they get caught, they will do time. They did 2 other houses in the same street (both elderly folk). So that's 3 domestic burglaries. So that's an automatic jail sentence.
At least police are doing something. SOC is there at the mo and CID coming out tomorrow.
Thanks Ice. I think that's what made me so mad. It's not like they can afford to lose that kind of money. And its not like they would have been able to defend themselves had they discovered the perpetrators. Mind you, Grandad would have had a go (although I have given him a good talking to and told him under no circumstances should he, like he is going to take any notice of me).
Those that pick on the elderly are the worst type of scum! It also sounds like it was someone local who knew them and where to look!...I hope your grandparents recover as well as possible from this x
Thats despicabble Barmaid, absolutely dreadful. Its not just the sad loss of precious belongings but the trauma of having the low lifes thinking they have some divine right to intrude your home. Really hope your grandparents recover from the shock in time, its very worrying for you. Take Care. Its all too common, two of my friends were burgled earlier this week, they fortunately are much younger .
