For bedtime, teething powders and, if necessary, small dose of calpol/parapaed etc. Good luck...
When I was back in Scotland I bought Boots teething gel for my wee girl. It really helps her. She is 15 months old and has four teeth now and she seems to have several more teeth coming through. She is usually a cheery wee soul but teething makes her miserable. As soon as I rub the gel in her mouth, her smiles return (often within seconds). When I was wee, my Mum swore by Milk of Magnesia rubbed on my gums for teething pains - apparently it always worked. Teething rings (the ones with gel in them) that are put in the fridge to cool can work too.
rubbing alcohol such as whisky, rum or brandy has been a method for teething troubles for hundreds of years!
Alcohol was only removed from gripe water and teething medicines about 20 yrs ago, so most of us AnswerBankers will have had alcohol at some point as babies.
Its not as if I am suggesting you give the baby a glass of the stuff rofl!!!!
We've used the teething rings, frozen, as well as freezing a bagel and letting him chew on it. When he got a little older (old enough to not choke) we gave him frozen blueberries - that was a big hit. If it was really bad, we'd give him baby Tylenol.
We never did try the alcohol on the gums, but I've heard many people suggest it... I don't think a tiny bit of schnapps on the gums would hurt the baby.
