How long after an operation (that lasts 90 minutes) does it take for the anaesthetic to completely leave the body? I had an operation or Endometriosis last wednesday 16th september, and still feel sleepy.

The anaesthetic wouold normally be completely out of your system within 46 hours at the outside. If you are still feeling sleepy, it may be becuse your body is diverting energy reserves to recovering from the surgery. If the problem persists, have a chat with your GP to make sure everything is alright. I've just researched, because I was uaware of what your condition actually is, and armed with the information, I can see that your surgery has been pretty serious, and explains why you are still feeling weak after it. It is not the anaesthetic that's affecting you, but the serious surgical invasion you have undergone, which will take time to recover from. You should be resting as long and often as possible until you feel better.
In a previous job I dealt with peoiple who had elective hip replacements. In all other respects they were generally fit healthy people but they used to say that they felt like they had had flu, tired dazed and a bit emotional, for up to six weeks after the op. One and all the recovered after resting and taking light nourishing food... the old remedy!! Hope you feel better soon, be kind to your recovering body
The anaesthetic agents would have cleared your body by now, though one of the symptoms of endometriosis is lethargy and tiredness which you may still be feeling. A few bracing walks in the onsetting autumn air should see you alright. A 90 minute procedure for your condition(I work in the Op Theatre) appears to be a little longer than usual. Did you have cautery or something a little more involved?(Sorry to pry, just perplexed at the time it took).
Before going under a GA i was given a sheet of do's and don'ts for after the GA ...one of them was do not sign any legal documents or stuf to do with ur money (banking etc) for about 5 days...so perhaps there is a chance of the effects lingering.... hope it clears up soon for u.

Thank you for your replies. The operation consisted of a laparoscopy (camera in stomach), an endoscopy, I had a polypus removed from my cervix, I had my cervix and neck of the womb cauterized, and the endometriosis lasered off my bladder. They said if they hadn't have lasered the growths off there and then it would have spread to my fallopian tubes and made me infertile! It is scary as I have heard it can come back at any time.. does anyone know how this can come back and if there is any way of preventing it?
