Faddy eating cat!

My cat has always been ultra fussy about food but now he's eating a third of what he used to and I'm wondering whether ther is something else wrong. He appears fine in himself and doesn't look any different but he is catching a lot of mice recently and bringing them in the house! He used to eat 4 pouches of cat food a day plus dry food whenever he wanted but he always preferred the wet food. For the last month or so he kept turning his nose up so I reduced it to 2 pouches a day. Now he sometimes isn't even eating that. He appears hungry and wants you to feed him but when you do he has a few licks and turns his nose up! Its like he only eats when he's starving and it doesn't matter which brand of food it is. Any ideas?

We used to have a cat like that and the only thing it really loved was the water out of tinned peas !! God knows how we discovered it !!
Perhaps he is being fed best steak and fish by someone else so isn't bothered about what you have on offer.

There could be some truth in that because I know he does go into one of the neighbour's houses sometimes and she once told me he didn't like tuna!
But why would she continue to feed him on a daily basis? He still spends the majority of the time in our house asleep through the day and out on a night.
I don't have a problem if that is the case I just don't understand why you would do that to someone elses cat.
Has he been wormed recently?
Our neighbours used to feed our cat with steak and cream. They used to love him going to their house so they could make a fuss of him. If he still looks healthy then I wouldn't worry.
Maybe your neighbour is trying to get one up on you. I think it's rather rude to feed someone elses pet. For all she knows your cat could be on a special diet.

If your cat is healthy, I wouldn't pander to it's fussiness. If the cat is genuinely hungry, then it will eat what it's given. It does sound as though he's getting his oats elsewhere though. Imagine how much money you will save if your neighbour continues to feed him.
I cant remember the figures but the say theres something like 9 million cats in the UK and 12 million cat owners, cos the little bu@@ers go to whoever feeds them. Ours go through really fussy phases and it annoys me sooo much when we end up throwing cat food away.
I do reckon if he looks fine he probably is.
Our little girl cat eats to live. She would rather starve than eat some brands. I was determined to change them onto Netto stuff and our big tom was fine with it, but she didnt eat at all for 3 days! I was sure perseverance would pay off but they get their own way in the end! Have you rung the vet? Our vets are really good to advise you on the phone rather than getting charged an arm and a leg for taking them in.
