I have been given diazepam and paroxetine (seroxat) by my doctor for anxiety. Has anyone else tried this or can anyone tell me if this is a dangerous road to go down?

its best to follow doctors advice before making any changes with your treatment.
If you are uncertain this is right for you you can ask for a second opinion or a review by a psychiatrist who are more specialised in dealing with these medications. As with all medication like this there is a chance you may develop a dependence. It is important you get additional help with the reasons for your anxiety as well
good luck

Thanks pink. I dont have a contsant problem its just in certain situations. Doctor said about seeing counselling if these dont work
may be useful to see a therapist anyways its hard to know what type as unsure what difficulties you have cognitive behaviour therapists help you manage your thoughts more positively as they come from the school that believe are thoughts determine our behaviour.
It may also be worth visiting your local mental heallth clinic as they often run groups for things like anxiety management or contact local groups in your area who can guide you as to what may be available in your area. Don't be afraid to ask for help the only true way to overcome your difficulties is to face them in a sfe way and work through them. /it will be hard at first but worth it in the end. I think medication is a temporary measure to break the cycle you neeed to do the hard work then
take care
Has he said to take the paroxetine regularly, perhaps two or three times a day, and the diazepam as and when needed?
That's quite a strong combination? I used Seroxat a few years ago for a period and they did help me. However that particular brand has been in the headlines in the last couple of years due to some negative long term effects it seems to have on those using it...
I've been on seroxat a couple of times, it did work for me, perhaps too well, I went from being very anxious to not giving a damn and not really having any feelings - it was actually personally a good thing as it made me realise how extreme and abnormal my anxiety had been. I would not recommend for long term, I had bad night sweats as a side effect and I've heard some bad stories due to people being on the drug long term.

Are you waiting for a therapist appointment in conjunction with the medication? I was told being on the drug would help with the therapy. I think it did, it certainly helped clear my vision and see how much it was affecting my life and the therapy was excellent in changing the way I viewed things.
I had diazepam but was told it was a short term only drug ie no more than 10 days. I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks Long term now just take 1 metrazapine at night which hopefully, seems to work.
Why do place this credibility in Big Pharma? They're chemical bandages. Metaphorically speaking, you put 'em on and you cover up the wound. Then you take 'em off, and guess what, you still got the wound.

Thank you everyone i have just started taking them today and shall see how it goes. The diazepam is to take when needed and parox 1 10mg a day. I am told this is a low dosage so i feel better about taking them now. Thanks again.
Hello In a Pickle, (I like the name), so, you seek other help. Like what? If a person's already gone down the drug route, what's next? More drugs, or ECT?

I have just changed from Lexpro to Paroxetine 20mg with 10mg diazepam. I have never felt better. No more stress, muscle cramps at night and I now enjoy each day. Great combo
