i write with my left but throw with my right i hold a spoon in my left but play snooker with my right i play tennis with my left but play darts with my right, am i right or left handed and can someone explain the variations?

I have recently been pondering the same question! i write and do most things right-handed but type, eat and play the guitar left-handed. I am also left-footed when i kick a ball but start on my right foot if running. i think that maybe everyone has the ability to do things either left or right-handed just depends how you learn the first time. ie i learnt guitar by shadowing my friend (who is right-handed) and therefore i picked it up left-handed just as DOB says about Phil Mickelson.

Thanks everyone for your posts about languages - I'd read about left-handed people and supposed language abilities somewhere but couldn't remember if there was any evidence for it. Then when I did a language degree 50% of my classmates were left handed (ie well above the normal 1 in 10) so I wondered if it was a fluke or if anyone else had heard of it.

Iwrite,play snooker,use scissors and use cutlery with my left hand but a dart feels  weird and i have no power to throw it unless i use my right hand.Scissors have the blades round the wrong way for my eyes which seem to be set better for guiding my left hand-sounds strange but i bet someone knows exactly what i mean.I,ve never tried left handed scissors though!

bobtheduck--Like you i write with my left hand, but do almost everything else with my right, i still consider myself left handed because i can't really write with my right hand. i am also good at picking up new languages and art.

i'm left handed but i fire a weapon with my right hand. in the forces its a right hand world so you have to comply. left handed people are smarter than right handed because we have to adapt to their way so therefore we're smarter.

I am able to write with both hands, and have no prefernces for things like eating, drinking, using a bat, throwing- I can use either. When I was younger I forced myself to use my right hand for writing, and as a result I generally still do this- although I can slip back to left hand without thinking.

I write with my right hand, but I also can write left hand.  I'm in my twentys and just found out that my Left eye is dominant. I do most things left handed that I learned on my own. Everything that was taught I do right handed. I questioned my mother, who told me that I probably was left handed because I would reach for things and tried writing left handed when I was very young. She told me they forced me to be a right hander and didnt let me have a decision on it. I've taken quizes on which side of the brain is dominant and the result is my right half of my brain; which controls the left half of the body. Personality traits tend to be disorganized, late for most occasions, See the whole picture first then breaks down information from there.My thought is you are left handed but conformed to being right handed with certain things that you may have been taught. There are several quizes on the internet that may help you. I'm currently working on my bachlors for psychology, but may branch off into Neuropsychology to do more research on this. I hope some of this helps.

I did a study on this in college last year, i found that i am one of the wierd ones who is totally right sided in everything i do. it's not just handedness, its also with sight, hearing, etc.

Basically there is a gradient with this sort of thing. A few people are totally one sided, and most people fall into the middle somewhere, being predominantly one sided, or equally sided (ambidexterous).

No matter how hard you try, if you're on sided you won't be able to teach yourself to use your unnatural side quite as well as your natural side. This is because they are not learned traits, but genetic traits. This means that your genes dictate which side will dominate.

This isn't to say that you cant use both sides, just that you cant use tham as well as each other unless you are truly ambidexterous (a rare case!) I hope this answers you're question.

You are lefthanded for some things and righthanded for others. I am lefthanded for everything that uses one hand - darts, throwing,using knife, writing  but where two hands are needed - using cricket bat or golfclub I am right handed. I have met people who are exactly oposite to this.

Left handed people are smarter is an statement that is hard to prove but this one you can prove, lkefthanded are about 10% of the population but 25% of the novbelprize receviers, that says something

both my parents are left handed but my 2 sisters and i are right handed but things like ironing, peeling veg and punching, we do with our left. the ironing and peeling is cos thats how we were taught to do it, and dunno bout the punching! haha.

I am left handed, I find that my left hand is best for precise use, ie writing e.t.c.  My right hand and arm are a lot stronger however

ur ambredcutrus(sp) u can use both. The diffrence is all due to your brain. I mean i use my left hand for somethings, but on the whole im right handed.
