This is how some groups will try to stifle a genuine debate on immigration in Britain today.
This stupid female who threw the custard pie, should be arrested, clamped in stocks and custard pies thrown at her by everone who agrees that the time has come to curb immigration.
This is not going to happen, just as a halt to immigration is going to happen, but we can at least dream.

It's a childish stunt - not an attempt to stifle free speech. I really doubt it's been that deeply thought-out to involve any consideration of free speech - I . Careful not to lump the person who pied Woolas with hs opponents, with whom he promptly resumed debating after being cleaned up.
I think your response is a little OTT - having stupid people throw things at you is and always has been an occupational hazard in politics. Remember the condom-full of flour chucked at Blair? Or the tomatoes Heath was pelted with in the 70s? Going even further back, the numerous things being thrown at numerous people by the Suffragettes? It does happen. It's unfortunate - if a bit guiltily entertaining - but it does.

Agree with you Kromo it was a childish stunt, and many politicians have experienced this treatment in the past but regarding your statement,
Careful not to lump the person who pied Woolas with hs opponents, with whom he promptly resumed debating after being cleaned up.
The group "No Borders" say they believe in free transport regardless of borders and say their actions were a response to the Minister's recent comments.
This statement made by the group who this woman represented, seemed to be definitely his opponents.

For politicians to be held accountable to the electorate they have available to the electorate, I'm tired of seeing M.Ps on T.V rather than in their constituency, no sooner do they do that, no sooner than they actually say something (which I don't entirely agree with) some dim wit throw starts chucking things.
You won't find it entertaining when you have to pass through airport style security and personal scrutiny to see your M.P or the only opportunity to hear them speak is from afar when they're behind bullet proof glass, if you don't like what they're saying/doing then when the chance comes VOTE!

Sorry - I was a little unclear.
What I meant was his opponents as in the people who he was debating with - not all opponents to his policies. What I meant was that his intellectual opponents almost certainly abhor the stunt and we have to be careful not to consider them in the same league
