Hi everyone, i took my 9 yr old daughter to doc today, as she has like a small cyst on her girlie bits, which has now popped and has clear fluid oozing out.
She is red down there and the skin looks a bit crumpled, also her clitoris is constantly hard and is painful to touch.
The doc didnt even look, all he said was put on some cream he gave me for the cyst. We were in there for 2 mins max!
What should i do? I am concerned, as this problem with the hard clitoris has benn going on for months, only made worse by this cyst.
I feel very let down now, and am worried as its causing discomfort for her.
Any ideas on what i should do or what it could be would be hugely appreciated!! xx

Did you start a thread talking about you daughter having a problem down there a few months ago?

I would personally be calling the surgery back, telling the receptionist that you are not happy with the 'care' your received and you want to see another doctor ASAP and also what the surgery's complaint procedure is. You might not want to make a complaint, but hopefully it will give them a scare enough to get your daughter seen again today ;o) xx
It would be wise to ask for a second opinion.
I'm sorry to hear about your Daughter Sheribee, poor thing must be in real discomfort.

If you still feel concerned, then you can request to see a different doctor at the same surgery. I always think it's wise to get a second opinion especially if you are not happy.

Follow your Mother instinct and give them a ring. Please let us know what happens.
I would certainly ask for your daughter to be seen by another GP. It sounds like her treatment has been cursory at best, and neglectful at worst.

Make sure she is seen and examined properly this time.

Hope she is OK.

hi, yes i did post a while ago, but it stopped bothering her so i just assumed it was normal, now i feel different. when i have looked down there she says she doesnt want it touched coz it hurts.
i have lost confidence in the docs there, they all seem too busy to listen properly! i feel like im making a fuss! i wonder if i can get her seen elsewhere?
Another surgery will not see her if she's not registered with them. You could move the surgery you want to be registered with and they will see you, but I'm not sure how long you'd have to wait.
I am appalled that the doctor could "diagnose" the problem without even having a look!

You are not making a fuss, if your daughter is feeling discomfort I think asking to see someone who examines her properly and comes up with a diagnosis is absolutely crucial. Ask for a second opinion.
You could phone the NHS Direct and ask for their opinion on what to do. They are really helpful.

However, I think Lakitu's has given the best advice on this, although I would actually ask to speak to the practice manager confidentially about a complaint and not take no for an answer. A receptionist might just fob you off.

Phone your surgery now and ask for your daughter to be examined by a different doctor with a view to a referral to a gynaecologist.

There are many causes of an inflamed and hard clitoris, mostly they can be dealt with by either internal or external antibiotics, but rarely the problem is something else altogether that does not respond to antibiotics.

The doctor cannot be certain that the cyst is completely drained, or even that the two problems are related.

Constant pain in that area is not normal and it needs proper attention.

This link has lots of information about problems in that area in pre teens, most will not apply to your daughter but it does demonstrate the many different causes of your daughter's symptoms.

Please do not be alarmed by the content, I just hope it persuades you that an examination is absolutely necessary
You have received a stand of care below which is resonable expected from your GP.

For many reasons, I am not a fan of NHS direct.

You either need a second opinion, as Ethel said, either to a padiatrician or gynaecologist. It sounds like a recurrent cyst (Bartholin's cyst) although this is extremely uncommon in a girl of 9yrs.

Insist on 2nd opinion.
Second opinion like many people have said before me.
you could go to your local A+E, we were unhappy with the doctors at our surgery and the receptionist advised us to do this because the doctors at the hospital get that annoyed about it they make official complaints about the GP's which go straight to the local health trust and something is done whereas public complaints are generally left to be dealt with by the practise manager

I am wondering whether to take her to a private doctor at our local private hospital.
The doctor did say if its no better in 24 hrs then go see the nurse, and she will take a look, but how will she know what sort of things cause this problem?
I just want to cry now!
The same surgery sent my other daughter home, when we later went to hospital she has pneumonia!
I thought that this was the Health Service that was the "Envy of the World"
If all else fails, take her to A&E & say you won't leave until she's sorted out.

Good luck Sheri.

Same sentiments as danchip - sorry, hadn't read your post.
Yes, I agree A and E. They can't actually turn you away. You may have to wait hours and hours because they have to prioritise, but if I were you that's where I would go.

You and your daughter just don't need this sort of treatment.

Good luck.
A and E ........is she an accident? No. Is she an emergency? No. This puts pressure on a dept that is already overstretched and often manned by less experienced doctors than your GP.
Litigation is so rife in the UK that Casualty Doctors are put in an invidious position of having to treat a non A and E case.

Thoughtless and unfair but so typical of "that's their job and anyway it's free" society.
I agree with Squad - this is not a job for A&E.

This needs you to be firm and insistent with your GP practice - see another doctor and get her properly examined. If you are not satisfied with any diagnosis, ask for a referral.

This condition has been going on too long and needs dealing with. Pick the phone up and get it sorted.

It is probably 'something and nothing' that can be dealt with quickly and easily, but you need to be sure it is being dealt with properly.

Be calm and reasonable, but insistent. If you are still not satisfied you can complain but it is better to keep good relations if at all possible.
You are right squad, but sometimes we are forced into the situation. It shouldn't happen, A&E should be for Accident and Emergency only and yet more and more people are just turning up because they are in a situation like sheribee's - and you can't blame them. The whole situation needs looking at - but meanwhile if I was sheribee I would want something done right away - I'm afraid I would go to
