Please help cat weeing on bed

Please help I am desperate. Bought my cat loving daughter a beautiful pedigree kitten for her birthday in september last year. The cat was litter trained at 13 weeks when we got it. She initially had a few accidents but we put that down to being a baby still. Things settled down and she used her litter tray well for a very long time without any misshaps.She is a house cat so not suffering from being cold out doors. She has recently started to pee on our bed and mostly my daughters bed. We realise cats are creatures of habit and have a great sense of smell so whenever its happened we have washed all the bedding and made sure duvets have been dry cleaned etc. We bought a brand new mattress for our daughter which has been in situ for 3 days with clean bedding ,duvets etc and have religously kept the cat out of her room.....until tonight when I left her bedroom door open for 30 seconds only to walk back in and find the cat squatting and peeing all over her brand new bed & bedding! Fortunately I have a plastic sheet over the mattress so It didn't go through that . I literally can't go on like this and if it continues I will have to consider rehoming it as I will not have a house that revolves around a peeing cat. My daughter is distraught as she realises despite being very young herself that htis is not a long term option for us. This cat is just beautiful but seriously pushing her luck......what can I do ? What am I doing wrong and why is she still doing this despite knowing and using her litter tray so well? Please,please help I don't want to break my little girls heart.

I once had a cat who did this, but only to people she didn't like. We had a male au-pair when K. Jnr was young and the cat absolutely hated him (she got on fine with all our female au-pairs, but admittedly, this guy was weird. The dog didn't like him, either!). If he left his bedroom door open, puss would go in & pee on the bed - she even did it one night when he was in it!! (Much to my amusement!) Does the cat get on OK with your daughter? You don't say how old she is, but I assume she's old enough to be a responsible pet owner and treat her well? Does your little girl perhaps have friends round who aren't quite as good with the cat as she is? Maybe this is puss's idea of getting her own back? Does the cat still use her litter tray? Make sure it's kept clean for her and within easy reach. Maybe your vet could suggest an animal behaviourist who could help. It would be a shame if you have to re-home the little cat.

has she seen the vet as cats will pee on something other then the litter tray if it hurts as they connect it with the hurting it migh be something as simple as a bladder infection having said that 1 of ours would crap on my sons bed for no reason he had 5 beds to choose from but only every did it on his , as keilber said make sure she has been done

Thanks all except for the 'lead' suggestion. are you insane! Yes she is speyed, neutered or whatever you call it. I have read that cats don't have the emotional ability to 'punish' you or 'get you back' so to speak so I really don't think it's that. It's just so random. Maybe despite all the washing we haven't quite got the smell out. I will take her to the vet though as its worth getting it checked out. She does have a mad half hour in the morning around the sam etime she has her morning wee & pooh which results in her being very 'vocal' so may be she is in a bit of discomfort. I have noticed she goes in for a pooh straight after I've cleaned it out & this can't be a coincidence. Aaaargh....the silly little beast is sitting in fron t of the screen now chasing the curser. I think she is a bit stupid..seriously I do. Please keep the suggestions coming...is ther a particular smell they don't like that I can spray on?

they dont like orange scent and yes they do like to have a clean tray i have 1 who will crap on the floor beside the tray if it is not clean hopefully when the weather gets better she will spend time outside and might break the habit also they do like the tray private i have got 1 with a hood on

Sorry but I don't agree with keeping cats indoors. I have had pedigree Persians and Chinchilla Persians and they always went out once they were old enough. I wonder if she was let out she would get used to going outside.

The kitten/young cat may like the idea of settling down for a snooze on the bed, but there's a possibility that she has cystitis. The same thing happened with one of my cats, vet checked her out, and it was cystitis. A week's course of antibiotics, and no problem since. So it would be well worth getting her checked out. Hope all goes well.

Sorry, I forgot to say, that after a snooze, if it is cystitis the cat will wake up and wee where it is.

I have had indoor cats for various reasons, and being an indoor cat will not be the reason she is peeing on the bed. Going outside will make no difference.

I would take the cat to the vet to get her checked out. Female cats are very prone to cystitis. I agree with Schutz on this. I had kept many cats over the years and quite a few have had cystitis, which makes them pee in odd places.

A vet will check her for other things too.

Don't give up. There is always a reason behind a cat weeing in the wrong place.
