driving an automatic vehicle - then a manual ...?
4 Answers
has anyone only been allowed to drive an automatic...then passed the manual test - an had problems 'remembering'...?
i am planning to take the manual test...an im confident, especially now that i have been on the roads for nearly 2 years...so have road sense etc
however...i am concerned that i may struggle to 'keep up' with 'remembering' that im in a manual vehicle from time to time...??
i dont want to be forgetting to change gear all the time and stalling etc
anyone else done this an had any problems?/
thanks

I don't think they fail you just for letting the revs get too high or low (though they might if it actually stalled).

Drive a manual for an hour. Borrow a car, or better perhaps, just take a driving lesson (having explained why!) I drove nothing but automatics for twenty years. Then I hired a manual on holiday. What got me, apart from stalling occasionally, is that I'd forgotten how to restart a manual car on an uphill slope. This was embarrassing as I was on a road in the Alps at the time! You can imagine the look on the face of the driver behind as I began to roll slowly back!
