Extremely Dry Hands

Hi - the skin on my hands is really dry and cracked (all over my hands and fingers, its horrible) - I think I have tried all the mainstream hand creams - but can you tell me what ones work for you? ( Its worse in Winter but is like this all year round.) Cheers

I use Nutrogena when my hands get really bad, and keep a tube of Nivea Soft in the car, just in case I need something when I'm out and about.

You could also try almond oil. I find that it makes my hands feel really nice after I've given a massage with it.

neutrogena hand cream is the best, you must try it! use it as often as you can, what i do is apply loads before i got to bed, give your hand a good massage as well by absorbing the product to your hand, then wear one of those gloves over night (not sure what they are called but works really well), in the morning your hands should feel really soft.

You can get special gloves that you wear at night. if you used something like almond oil and then wear the gloves it should help

Try this regime before bed.
Soak your hands for a few minutes in a bowl of warm water to which is added a quality moisturising bath soak.

Dry gently and use plenty of good nourishing hand cream.

Pop your hands into some thin cotton gloves, which I think are available in Boots, and wear overnight.

You should soon see an improvement.

ps Some foot creams give a better result on hands than a hand cream.

Inecto pure coconut oil hand & nail cream is my saviour - the skin on one of my fingers cracks and sometimes I even get one of those "keens" (I don't know how it's spelt, but a really deep cut that cracks every time you move). I've tried loads of handcreams, and this is the best for me. Good luck.

I use Atrixo and I think it's fantastic, really thick and rich and works brilliantly!

Neutrogena swiss formula and the good old fashioned snofire. (available only at chemists) Snofire is also great for chilblains and cracked heels. My mother and grandmother swore by it and I now use it. It is very mild but has great healing properties. I even got my husband using it as his job causes nasty cuts and splits on his hands.

bodyshop also did a really good one - think it might have had hemp or something in it. Keep a couple of tubes of whatever you choose to use and use often!

There is a treatment using paraffin wax and should be available in a local beauty salon.

I do actually have a paraffin wax bath and have used that on my mothers hands for very dry skin.

They vary hugely in price but the wax really does work.

I use Flexitol heel balm (Not unlike Neutrogena actually) on my hands in the winter, which keeps them supple. Also try to wear gloves in cold weather, which will help protect your hands from the elements.

hi - some really great suggestions thanks very much everyone! Luxury - I remember No7 used to do a fab hot wax hand treatment, but I never thought to look into other brands. I've got some cotton gloves an have resorted to using that heel balm stuff on my hands and covering them with the gloves. If this bloomin snow EVER goes (live in rural Scotland) I'm looking forward to heading to Boots to try a couple of your tips. Thanks again xx

Atrixo Regenerating hand cream works for me.

Buy a large tub of cheap vaseline, and rub a large dollop on hands for a couple of minutes, then wash off in hot water. Hands will feel soft and moist. Use again when hands begin to feel dry.
