Cold remedies

I had to travel on Public transport this week and what with all the rude people, who just cough in the faces of others, I think I'm about to come down with a cold.

So far, since falling pregnant, I've been lucky and haven't caught anything. I suppose working in a gym helps too.

Have any of the other pregnant ladies here taken any effective remedies, which help to lessen the effects of a cold and are safe to take during pregnancy?

I've been told by the Midwife, Paracetemol and simple linctus is ok to take, although reading the label on the Simple Linctus, said not to be taken during pregnancy.

Thanks

Hi there velvetee,
I managed to catch that nasty cold thing going about over xmas i got so chesty i had to take a week of work, doctor wanted to give me antibiotics but i refused them i was told only other thing is paracetamol or good old hot honey and lemon, i feel for you it ain't good when we cant take the old lemsip or any other fast acting cure, Hope you feel better soon.
I haven't really got an answer to this question but wish we were less concious of how we looked. In Japan, Hong Kong and other similar countries they are happy to wear face masks in public to protect them from picking up germs.

I find vitimin C with zinc (available in disolvable form) work well. As an alternative to Lemsip try sugar free squash with hot water and dissolve paracetamol.

Look after yourself.
Hi Velvetee, I was lucky throughout my pregnancy and didn't encoutner any bugs until the last two weeks and I had a horrible cough and cold. Sadly, apart from resting as much as possible, and drinking plenty of fluids, which I know you already know, there is not much else you can do - both of those things are not easy to do whilst pregnant and working.

When you get home in the evenings, have a relaxing bath, hot drink and an early night. Up your vitamin C and try to get as much rest as you can xx

Thanks everyone. The cold hasn't shown it'self yet, I just feel congested with phlegm at the back of my throat and my throat hurts a bit when I swallow. I'm hoping nothing will come of it.

I agree Clio, it's a shame we don't wear masks on public transport. I have an eccentric cousin, who wears one when she ventures out, but people just look at her, as if she's a loony.
