How old is she? maybe you could book a holiday for you both somewhere, this doesn't have to be 5 * but she will probably enjoy going on holiday with her Son/daughter? sorry don;t know. This way you get to spend quality time with her and get a holiday yourself!

yeh thats a good idea actually.. thanks for that !

At last! A normal question! How much were you thinking of spending? Have you thought about a nice properly done photo of you and your other siblings (if you have any, that is!)

Need to know what your budget is though, before I can give you some really good advice!

On the photo theme, maybe an album or one of those frames you can put lots of pics in from when she was a child with all your family. Or if you're a whiz, for my aunty's 50th last month, my uncle managed to scan pic's of the whole family right from when she was little up til now and put them on a DVD with her favourite songs playing in the background.
Or a weekend at a health farm? Is there a show she'd like to see? You could take a her out for something nice to eat then onto a show.

well she is in her late 50's. I have two sisters and a brother and they are all in there 20's and 30's. Budget is anything up to 100 really maybe more. These ideas are a great help though Thanks!
A meal out for all the family, you don't have to pay for everyone although think you should pay for mum! but maybe some old friend she has not seen for ages!
Jewellery, flowers, choc's, candles, pictures
Foot spa, face sauna thingy, manicure / pedicure / pampering kit.

Anything for the garden always makes me a happy mum!  .....garden bench, stoneware, bird bath/table?

(Not much good if she's in a flat tho' sorry!)

I think you can get a good (independant) deal for a weekend city break.  Maybe treat her (& you) to a weekend somewhere different - I know your budget is 100 but perhaps you could increase it and go to Prague together and call it a Christmas/B'day/Mothers Day gift wrapped in one.  Prague is beautiful in winter and I know a good hotel where she would be very impressed!  Alternatively, Dublin / Riga / etc etc.  The world is your oyster!
This may sound funny to some people but something for the kitchen? Maybe she's always wanted a juicer, or blender or something? All my mum wanted for Xmas last year was a key warmer so she could deice her car lock. My partner' mum wanted a pair of sunglasses!
Another idea would be to look at the Oxfam website, you can buy a goat for a family in Africa for 25 for example. The family can get milk, breed the goat with someone elses and the male baby goats. Same with chickens, 10 chickens costs 10. If she already has everything maybe you could give a little something for her to someone else she might care for?

spk - I am around the same age as your Mum & like noddy, would be very happy to receive things for the garden.

When it was my birthday in August, our two daughters, my sister & friends bought me some beautiful antique looking fairies & pixies for my 'secret garden' & I was overwhelmed with them all. Some of them were from the Past Time store which is also on-line.

I'm not being funny but I know a guy who gave his Mum a Hot Air Balloon ride for her birthday.
bernadette, my best friend had a Hot Air Balloon ride for her birthday last year & she had a wonderful time.
I forgot to add that for my 50th birthday, my husband organised a Helicopter lesson for me. All the familly came along to watch me take off & land. It's all on video too, so it will always be a day to remember!
My dad got my mum a microlyte (sp?) flight for her 40th birthday and she loved it. For her 50th my brother and I did the family photo thing and she loved that even more! Also I think a nice piece of jewellery is always a good idea - both my mum and I are always happy with gifts of jewellery.
nicola_red, my siblings and I did the photo thing for our mum's 50th and she was so overwhelmed. Job well done! Although I think a helicopter or hot air balloon ride sounds wicked!
