lifespan of fillings

I had alagram fillings about 9 years ago, they were all done within a month or so of each other. Now they are all starting to leak, I have had to have a root canal and three deep fillings done recently and it seems the other old fillings are breaking down too. Family and friends have had some of their fillings for 20+ years. Have any other AB's had fillings that have lasted such a short time? I go to the dentist regulary and have not had to have any treatment up to now. Thanks in advance

Some of my fillings are very old and when I mentioned this to my latest dentist he just said well whoever did them madea very good job of them thats why they've lasted so well..and theyre still fine...

Thank you for such a quick reply, It seems may people have very old fillings. I don't want to have to go through all this work again in another 9 yrs time.

I have been told that it is very dangerous to have the old type of fillings as mercury can leak into the brain, and we don't want that, do we?
