Why are the Asian/Muslim people being given priority?

I have not posted this question to deliberately provoke racist comments or suchlike, but I have just tried to get a patient an NHS appnt, specifically with a female gynaecologist at her request. She has good reasons for this request. I was told she would have to see a male because they "have to take into consideration the Asians, so the female gynae consultant appointments are reserved (unofficially of course) for them". I find this a pretty horrendous state of affairs. Women specifically requesting female surgeons should all be given the same consideration surely; no matter what their skin colour, race, creed, religion etc. Imagine if this situation were reversed "Oh well, we save all the male consultants/ female consultants/ best consultants (delete as applicable) for white women?
Like I said, don't let's just turn this thread into a racist rant, but am I alone in being appalled? I suspect not.

seriously that is very bad salla and something they would never admit to publicly - but why am I not surprised. In York we do not really have many muslims at all (don't know why) but in Leeds I know there are real problems as they do not have enough female GP's.......

It's not that I disagree with the Asian ladies only wanting to see a female - I can fully understand why they would. And rather a female than not one at all. It's just the inequality of it all. All women requesting a female gynae consultant should be given the same 'priority' and consideration. It shouldn't be "yes of course we will do all we can to accomodate you" for some & "sorry - no you can't" for others.
Have any of you tried changing your names to a foreign one, puttting brown make up on and a headscarf and trying out this que jumping theory? Id suggest to film it and present it to the powers that be so once again we can have this "level playing field" That apparently existed somewhere at some other time.
When one of my sisters was in hospital last year there was an Asian lady in the next bed. She had at least 4 male relatives with her 24/7, I presume to "protect" her from male staff.
One time my sis went to the loo and when she came back one of the Asian male visitors had climbed into her bed fully clothed and gone to sleep!
The nurses wouldn't do anything about it for fear of appearing racist.
My brother in law visited and bodily turfed him off the bed.

I have worked in this job within the NHS for 24 odd years (very odd!) & have never come across someone blatantly saying this before. I was outraged on behalf of the patient - how can I go back & tell her that?
It's the fault of the system, mollycoddling & pampering to the minorities because they're too afraid of offending certain societies. It should be equal across the board for all.
