Snoring
19 Answers
I need some suggestions to stop me having to kill my other half because of his snoring. I am sick to death of having to get up in the night and come downstairs to sleep on the recliner :(
I have tried to get him to go to the GP but like most men he is too stubborn to go. He thinks that because his snoring doesn't cause him any problems that there is no need to do anything about it.
He tried those nasal strips once (for one night) and they had no effect so he never continued with them.
All sensible (and cheap) ideas are welcome!

If he is overweight and snores,he may develop sleep apneoa, which could be life threatening (aside from the fact you might murder him). The odds may be slim-but do get it checked out. He could also be prescribed devices that stop or control his snoring.

Oh daffy, I do sympathise with you, mrwarpig snores and it is horrendous, even sleeping downstairs gave me no respite! However, I eventually solved the problem (I didn't murder him tho' was sorely tempted at times!), I left him in scotland and moved back to Ireland, lol. Seriously, I do feel for you. I like the link that Andy-Hughes included, definitely worth investigating, rather spend a few pounds on a possible cure than spend the next 10 years banged up in prison for manslaughter.
Make him sleep on his side and put a very thick, rolled up towel behind his back, along with some pillows, to stop him sleeping on his back. You could also sew marbles or something similar down the back of his pyjamas, which would also help to keep him sleeping on his side.
Ideally he should go to see the doc. If he does suffer from sleep apnoea he isn't getting the proper restful sleep he needs, and after a while that can have serious consequences - apart from anything else, dozing off while driving is not good for your health, or that of other people.
I did suffer from sleep apnoea and losing weight helped but I didn't get on with the CPAP device the hospital gave me and eventually would up with gadget similar to the snorekill one, and it help a lot.

I've posted something similar before for someone, but i have the same prob with my OH.
The ONLY thing that has ever worked is a device (mandibular correction) which the snorer puts in their mouth, rather like a sports mouth guard. It holds the jaws in place so the soft tissue cant go all floppy.
You can pay 80-200 for a custom made one, which would be worth it if it works for you, but i would recommend you try a cheaper one out first to see if it helps.
This is basically what we bought to try.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.
He isn't overweight and doesn't drink alcohol at all, seperate bedrooms are out of the question as we live in a 2 bed terrace and our son has the second bedroom. He doesn't eat cheese or dairy before bedtime so that isn't the cause. He doesn't wear pyjamas so I can't sew anything into the back of a pj top.
I am going to try and convince him to try the snorekil device but as he doesn't think he has a problem it may be difficult.lol

Try a snore ring. Silent Knight is the one that cured snoring issues with me and my mum.
We both snore extremely loud, can be heard downstairs when we're tucked up in bed upstairs.
I didn't think for a minute that the Silent Knight snore ring would work, but seriously it does. It reduces the snoring to just heavy breathing and both my partner and my dad are extremely grateful.
nasal strips and throat spray didn't work for me. Silent Knight snore rings cost around 20 and you can get them online and in Boots.
Good luck
