My friend and I would like to go away for this weekend but without splashing out too much. We both live in London and we would like to go away fri and sat night in UK or abroad. Are there any ideas please as we are really stuck and time is running out.

You may want to spend the whole weekend partying and drinking, or you may want to go bird watching or walking up mountains, or lying on a beach.
An idea of your age and sex may also help. Two same sex people in their twenties would probably want to go to a different place to two same sex people in their 60s, and a couple (male/female) may want to go somewhere else again.
Depending on what you want to do this will define what places people suggest.

Well if you are around London there are loads of places to drive to on the coast.
If you are in North or East London how about East Anglia?
Lovely area, and on the coast there is Great Yarmouth which is fairly lively.
If you are in South London then how about Brighton?
Very lively town with loads of night life (lots of gays in Brighton so dont go to the "wrong" club!!).

>would suggest if two thirty year old males need info
>in where to go for a weekend, they would be safer to
>stay at home.
In fact earlier I suggested Brighton, and nearly put a comment at the time that two 30 year old men going to Brighton together could be a bit risky (regarding the active gay scene in the town).

If you live in London, and you have all this coast near you, why go all the way to Blackpool?
It is a horrible drive up the M40 then the M6 between Birmingham and Blackpool.
Bournmouth does have a reputation of being an old peoples place, but I gather there is also quite a good nightlife there.
The place to go is probably defined by which side of London you live.
If you are on the East why not Southend?
If you are on the South then you have a lot of choices: Hastings, Brighton, Bournmouth. Portsmouth.
Having been to most of those places I would still say Brighton is the best (not a great beach though, lots of stones).
But Brighton has a great wide prom, great pier, lots of great shops and bars, and the "lanes" an area of small antique and other shops which is really interesting.
Portsmouth is a large city, but also has a seaside feel to it so you get the benefits of being in a large city (pubs etc) but also good seaside facilities.
Lots of history in Portsmouth as well, making it an interesting place.
