I've recently been biting my tongue a lot when eating, and can't understand why. It's jolly painful. Any serious explanation or advice?

Biting your tongue leads to biting it more.

Unfortunately the swelling makes your tongue a bigger target. You just have to be very careful for a long time.
It is possible that the top edges of your teeth have worn unevenly, which could cause the problem. A dentist should be able to tell you if this is the case, and then sort it out. Not suggesting you have dentures, but some people find this is a problem with ill-fitting dentures. Hope you get it sorted, for as you say, it is very painful. Good luck.
Dentist for you.....maybe wisdom teeth problems?
