don't join the scouts
17 Answers
Instead of joining the scouts where you learn a few knots go camping and maybe a bit of kayaking why don't you join the sea cadets. The scouts are quite frankly lame compared to any of the cadet groups.
I was a scout and when ever we went on trips the adults did most of the stuff for us a babied us and even the older ones.
But at cadets the only thing that the adults do is some of the cooking.
The only reason why we don't have as many cadets is that we spend our money on enhancing the time of the cadets and not on advertising.
So who agrees that the scouts are lame?

sea scouts are different to sea cadets.
Sea cadets is a youth organisation based around a naval theme. (our number one uniform are the same as what the navy wear but that plus the number 4 unifrom only costs 10 + money for shoes or boots)
Cadets get to do; cooking, chartwork, metoerology, seamanship, piping, drill, first aid (we do these at our units but if you want to do a specific one which there isnt an instructor for you can book to do them in a weekend or over a few days if it is at a higher level.)
. . .
scuba diving, kayaking/ canoeing, swimming, sailing, powerboating, rowing, riflery, trips to other parts of the country and abroad outside of the unit at weekends and on trips.

Glad you enjoy what you do, but the scout group I know do a lot of things other than camping and kayaking, they also do first aid, shooting, climbing etc etc, and not only that but they have formed great friendships through coming through beavers, cubs and school together, and there are plenty of girls in the troup aswell.
I was in the cubs and scouts when I was a kid, By the age of 15 I'd visited had most of Europe, and the Channel Islands. I'd been boating on the Norfolk Broads, and spent a fortnight piloting a boat round the canals in the Midlands. We also used to go on manoeuvres with the TA. I'm pretty sure that (as a working class kid in the 50s) none of this would have been possible without the scouts.

He is a fake.
He claims that he is staying out at night all on his own when infact he is goign to a hotel and coming out about 100 metres from the hotel saying he is in the same spot and because it is dark you don't realy know.
THIS IS NOT A GOOD EXAMPLE TO SET OR FOLLOW.
Cadets start at the age of ten with the junior section so at least by tha age a child can make its own decision about starting or not. cubs and rainbows star at 6 i think. How can a child make a decision for themselves at that age ???
