sorry didn't know where to put this.....are corner shops that sell stamps allowed to add a profit on top of the 39p for a first class stamp....the shop near us charges 45p

yes, the management reserve the right to do WTF they like. The price is the RRP, they don't have to sell it for that, same as anything else.
not so sure - postage stamps are (still) as good as money - ROYAL mail and all that - bit like charging for a pound coin

I remember sending 2 bobs worth of samps as payment for something or other.

I'm sure I've seen somewhere before on here that it is against the law or something....I think I will contact Royal Mail........it's a bit of a rip off charging 6p on top.
I would have thought that was against the law too. Why don't you contact Royal Mail and enquire.
Yes it is illegal - the corner shop in the village tried to do this - and he was reported - not sure why he thought he would get away with it as there is a Post Office a few yards away.
LOL Was the shop run by indians???? They ALWAYS rip you off!!!!!!
I don't know about Indians. This sounds more like cowboys to me.
