Making tough choices

I had to have a beloved cat put to sleep last year. It was inevitable as she had terminal cancer....but finding the 'right ' time was so difficult as I kept willing her to hang on...and all this was around the New Year....when even vets are not always readily available. I still worry that I waited bit too long....

Sorry to hear about that, Pasta. We had to have our cat put down 10 years ago, because he had feline AIDS. He was a feral cat originally. My silly parents went and had him put down on my birthday.

Yes Harry - I guess we don't always regret making specific decisions, we just wish we'd handled things slight better.

Alba - maybe we are all on a pre-destined path, so if we do make the wrong choices, we get the opportunity to recify things later on in our lives. Just a thought.

stoke......sorry to hear that, how old is it? not that age makes any difference..

I had to have my little dog put to sleep last April. She was a little old rescue dog and when I got her they estimated she was about 10. She was my first dog and I had her for 3 years and I had her put to sleep too late which was extremely selfish on my part. I still cannot believe how upsetting it was.....and I used to think people who got upset over pets dying were stupid until it happened to me. I still miss her even though I now have another dog.

I have a little rescue dog and I cannot wait to see him next week. He's just turned 3 and I hope I have many more years of joy watching him chase his stick.

Hi, NoMercy - I don't know how cats got involved in this but how I came about owning one (or rather it putting up with me) was one night when I came out of the pub I was waiting for a bus and then heard a meeaiow from the litter basket attached to the bus stop - somebody had stuffed a kitten into the bin. I took it home and it stayed with me for 18 years When my partner left me I said 'cheerio' - when the cat died it nearly broke my heart

Yes Harry and Craft - the thing about your animals is that they love you unconditionally. Never the same with humans.

I'm not sure we ever know if we are making the right choices....i guess we have to make decisions based on what is in front of us at the time... I try and go with a gut feeling and pray it turns out for the best...some you win....some you lose!!
