Why does pain become more severe during night time? I injured my arm and shoulder after a fall in April and was sent for an x-ray. The result stated wear and tear and i am now on pain killers only. I see a physio later on in the month.
I can bare the pain during the day but after falling as sleep in bed i am awakened two or three times every night when the pain is more severe. I have bought heat and freeze spray's but they only give temporary relief. My doctor prescribed Tramadol and Paracetamol but sorry to say don't do much for me.
I am an OAP and would be gratful for any advice that would help me get a good nights sleep. Thank you

that's really rotten having so much pain, a good nights sleep is much needed! I think theres more pain at night as the affected joints are inmmobilised and pressing against a surface (your bed) I'm wondering whether may be a low heat source (electric blanket) may ease your pain and help you sleep through the night? Are you propping the bad side up so you don't end up sleeping on that side? Have you tried sleeping with your bad arm cushioned with some padding rolled up in the underarm? Not too much, just find what's comfortable and manageable.
I was wondering similar, is the pain eased if you are standing/sitting? Maybe you could change your sleeping position. Not always easy, but may be worth a try if it means less pain.
I think drugs wearing off and immobility are also a problem at night.
I hope you find a solution, not sleeping is awful and won't help your arm get better either.
The pain does ease up if iget up strange to say but at 3.30 am and 4.40 am it is wearing me out.
Just hope the physio i see on the 16th June will come up with an answer.
I have similar fracture in upper arm & shoulder done 10y ago. On sunbeds recently I suffered similarly when injured arm was rested down. When my arm was up with head on palms the pain relieved. Putting the arm up likewise may work for you, at least to help you sleep.
Recovery depends on your age. Pins & plates were not recommended for the upper arm.
When I broke my elbow, and it was in plaster, it was very uncomfortable and painful. I had to sleep in the spare room on my back. I put a pillow along the bed and rested my arm on it, it did help a little. I hope you get sorted soon.
