OK, so the NHS will be cripplingly short of money in a few years.

Let's look where we can save some.

I'll start.

No boob jobs on the NHS

No gastric bands funded by us

No IVF treatment on the NHS.

Do you agree?

No lung surgery for smokers.

No heart surgery for people who eat fatty foods.

No back operations for horse riders.

No orthopeadic surgery for footballers.

Etc

Is that what you had in mind?

Bit harsh, JJ
My died at home and the police had to come and check that it wasn't a suspicious death.

The policeman had to get details of medication that my dad took in case it was relevant.

We opened the cupboard that he kept his medicine in and there were so many unopened drugs that it looked like a chemist's shop.

I understand (and maybe even agree with) why they can't take back drugs and reissue them but surely they could do something with them and not just destroy them.

I used to pay about 100 per year towards my prescriptions by buying a prepayment certificate. Then it was decided to reduce the cost and then finally reduce it to zero. (Scotland).

Everybody is happy about this - but the money for the NHS has to come from somewhere. If we don't pay for prescriptions we will have to pay in some other way.

Panic ...

I thought you were trying to save NHS money.

If these people voluntarily decide to take part in activities which expose them to injury, why should the NHS/taxpayer foot the bill when they get hurt?

''If these people voluntarily decide to take part in activities which expose them to injury''

JJ... you forgot to add shin splints to your list ;-)
Absolutely, Snags.

In fact, if you are knocked down by a car, you probably shouldn't have been crossing the road in the first place.

So ... no treatment.
what if I crash my car at 71mph?
Yeah ok then... or maybe you weren't ''jogging'' fast enough...
JJ do you think we should close all hospitals?
No sterilisations or vasectomies, they either abstain and remain celebate or use contraception, oh and no free birth control, they can use the old British Rail method

no free dinners. No beds (bring your own),charge to use the bathroom.I'm sounding like ryan-air now.
Thank god for private medical insurance.......
No treatment.

Ha ha ha ...

Look, I'm joking, of course (although I wonder if the irony has been lost).

My point is, that different types of treatment have different degrees of importance for different people.

It's hard to start applying value judgments ... otherwise, where do you stop?

If you say No boob jobs, No gastric bands, and No IVF treatment, then the anti smoking lobby will start to say No cancer treatment. Then the vegetarians will say No heart operations for the fatty food people.

It will go on and on.
I went to see my old friend in hospital and i can tell you i have never seen as many sick people in all my life
leave on time poodicat
That's what I like about private health care.....expensive but so non-judgemental......
Noway ...

On the subject of Hospitals ...

The cost of passing the two daftest bits of legislation in our lifetimes (no smoking in pubs, and the car/mobile phone law) would have easily paid for a new hospital to be opened.
