chest measurements

no, i don't want to know what everyone's are :)

I just want to check that i'm right in thinking that the number, say 32, is the measurement around the ribcage? I was recently measured at 32dd which confused me because my friend is much slimmer (as in a size 8 to my 12) and is the same size. 

Also, when refering to a woman's measurements, ie 32-23-32 is the chest measurement refering to over the bust or around teh ribcage?

Well the first 32 is the measurement around the ribcage just at the base of the breast. Not over the actual bust. The middle number is the narrowest part of the waist, and the other 32 is right over the hip bones. Sadly, I only figured this out recently also as I never needed a bra until I started breastfeeding. All those years I thought 32 was the size of the cup! Sorry to hear about your double D. An old girlfriend of mine actually had to get a breast reduction (at 18 yrs) because they were killing her back and her whole posture. Unless you don't have that problem, in which case... congratulations!

I think when a women's statistics are given as say 38 26 38 this is indicates that the measurement is around the widest part of the boobs.  If talking about bra measurements then Yinzer's answer would apply.

 

Otherwise someone like Marilyn Monroe would have measured say, 32 22 36 instead of 40 22 36.

I'm 32dd as well and am also surprised to have a smaller back size than my  2 very tiny friends.Doesn't seem right but it is.

Thanks for the concern Yinzer :) thankfully, I'm more proportion than top heavy, so my bum balances everything out!
