I know you probably take antihistamine tablets if it is seasonal hay fever, but be careful if you increase the dose. Twice as much dosage doesn't give twice as much relief.
I had several bad doses of con*** last year and had to have prescribed anti bacterial ointment to use in my eyes twice a day which eventually it cleared up, and I've been free ever since. I expect you've tried the obvious things like bathing your eyes with Optrex. At night you could also try one of those eye masks containing a gel which you can put in the frig to cool.

Oh Tinker, I understand.
For me the following four things work:
Have you tried making food/drink with your local honey?
Do you wash your hair? I had a skinhead last year and my hayfever went!
Also take your tablets an hour before you wake. I set an alarm especially for the tabs and then go to bed.
Dont drink alcohol as it hinders the anti-histamines (spelling?)

Hi Tinkerbell - you are not alone - my 19 year old son is exactly the same - he takes Cetrizine tabs and is using an inhaler because he can't stop coughing. His eyes are like the devil - all red and bloodshot and stuck together.
It must be bad this year because even me and Mr. Den have hayfever symptons and we don't normally suffer with it.
Roll on Winter - oh dear I can't believe I am saying this.
It is hot and humid down here in Essex today, which does not help the symptons.
In fact his hayfever started back in April - and on Easter Saturday I had to rush him to A & E because he could'nt breathe properly - all down to hayfever...............
I really do sympathise Tinkerbell - try some cumcumber placed on your eyes, that is very soothing.
love Den xx

Hi Tinkerbell
So sorry you're suffering so badly. Been there, bought the T shirt etc...
I agree with the others here that you may have developed conjunctivitis again so I think you should get to your GP and get that checked out as soon as possible to start with.
I also agree with Iolanthe (what a great name!) and there's no point taking more tablets than is recommended. It won't do you twice as good and it could be harmful!
SAB has loads of great tips. As soon as you get home in an evening put your clothes in the washer and shower - or at least wash your face and hair. The pollen sticks to your clothes and hair and then transfers from your hair to your pillow and bed linen which just perpetuates the problem.
Change your pillow cases every day, your bed linnen often and regularly wash your pillows too - they will absorb pollen particles.
Another tip is to use latex pillows. Latex doesn't absorb particles the way microfibre or down pillows do.
If you like honey find a local supplier. The honey will be made from pollen collected in your area and, like an innoculation, can reduce sensitivity to the pollen you're encountering.
When mine is really bad I put Vaseline or something similar inside my nose. It felt really yukky (sorry, I know that;s not a word!) at first but it does help. I have to go to the loo more often than usual (not to use it but to blow my nose and re-apply!) but it does help.
Oh - and If you wear contacts, go for the daily disposable kind so you've got fresh every day.
I hope that you're feeling better soon but get your eyes checked over as soon as you can honey.
All best wishes. Firetracie

hi
me and my boyfriend have always suffered, this year seems worse than norm. What exactly does theat thing from lloyds pharmacy do?
Ive heard you should take grass seed tablets all year round then your body gets used to it, and obv the local honey thing.
i tend to get mine at night, around this time, awful eyes.

ive previously posted this. i suffered for years with H, in the end nothing worked then i got a steroid injection which miraculously changed my life literally overnight. they do say that these injections thin your bones but one just sees me through the summer months and i think it is so worth it, i think it was called Kenalog.; hope you manage to find some solution, it dominates your life so much and makes you feel miserable. good luck!
I'm very lucky I don't suffer from Hayfever.
But I was talking to a Canadian tourist a few months ago who said he suffered terribly until he got an injection from his GP, (in Canada). The injection lessened it heaps, he said.
I can't remember what sort of injection he said it was, but I didn't get the impression it was a steroid.

When my son was admitted to A & E with breathing problems due to Hayfever back in April - the male nurse was telling us that he has an injection around Febuary time and this completely controls the symptons throughout the summer months. He said he went to Belgium and paid around 50 Euros - they do this injection in the Uk, but he told us the GPs are reluctant to give it because of the price.
The only side affect he said was he felt a bit shakey for about a week.
I don't think it was a steriod but some antihistamine.
I am going to look into it for next year, as my 19 year old suffers terrible in the summer months. Even if we have to fly to Belgium, it will be worth it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi
I've posted this before on other posts here but in case you missed it...
I've spent 20 years back and forward to Drs for HF treatments. I have the worst HF of anyone I've ever met. Basically I've tried every antihistimine in the book, every inhaler, nose spray, had the Kenalog injection, everything, and nothing worked.
After spending a weekend bedridden with it, I eventually went into my Dr in tears and refused to go until they tried something new with me. At this point they referred me to the immunology clinic in a local hospital, who have started me on "Grazax", a desensitising set of tablets, which you dissolve under your tongue, one a day for 3 years. Over the 3 years your symptoms decrease, and by the end of the treatment your HF is gone for good!
I've heard that this year is particularly bad, but I've only had one sneezy night and that was after a walk in the woods! So I can only think that after 20 years I've finally found something that works for me!
Highly recommended!
