My rough collie has had a runny eyethat makes it look like she is crying in one eye. I have bathed the eye and wiped the tear marks away but it keeps coming back. Now the inside corner of her eye looks red and sore where it has been watering from. Would anyone know if there is anything else I can do. I do have some Tea Tree ointment but worried about putting it on.

Try and have a good look in the affected eye, as only the other day, my dog came in from the garden and he kept pawing at his eye, I put him in the bath and tried to rinse out the eye with tepid water, but he wriggled so much it was practically impossible to do, so I got him out of the bath and I had another look and suddenly spotted a bit of green which turned out to be a really long grass(?) seed which I was then able to pick out, I'm glad I found it as otherwise by the morning his eye would have been in an awful state. If you can't see anything, then a trip to the vet will be necessary. Unless anyone else comes on to say about the tea tree ointment, I wouldn't try it unless you know that it is ok to use.

Many thanks, I have had a look and cannot see anything in her eye. And still not sure about the tea tree so will not put any on until I know for sure.
I wouldn't put anything on it.
It does sound as though she has got something i her eye or has scratched it on a thorn. Leave it until tomorrow and if she's no better, take her to the vet.
I really wouldnt put tea tree oil in your dogs eye lilac ben - would probably irritate more and sting also...best thing is as previous poster said is to bathe with warm water and if eye is still affected tomorrow then bring doggie to vet....

good luck - hope u get your doggie sorted
Apart from actual eye drops, the only thing I would ever put in a dogs eyes is something called Colloidal Silver, which can be used for all sorts of ailments.

However in this case I would definitely take her to a vet and get it checked, in case it is something in the eye and so she can be referred to an eye specialist if the vet thinks it is an eye condition.

Many thanks for your replies. It isnt in her eye but on the corner underneath her eye, where the tear drops down to. Underneath her eyelid..
I would follow the advice allready given and visit the vet tomorrow if no improvement. Could be a blocked tear duct? The vet will have the right equipment to see what is the problem and with some treatment and medication will probably be on the mend in no time at all. Good luck!
