i was wondering how you guys cope with jehovah witnesses visiting your homes..its get some in month december...thats what mullein calls it..i have had a letter asking them not to call sent and yet the arrogant lot still come, if you dont answer the door they make a note to revisit they are to arrogant to believe you dont want to know..and as they are waiting on doorsteps up and down the road you can see them having a good nosey look through peoples windows..i have even overheard 2 of them discussing an antique dolls house they saw in someones home and that to me is information for burglars,,apart from shooting them what would you do? they are so bad here they even go around the houses on xmas day....mullein

I know I'm going to get howled down as a bible basher or a freak or a weirdo cult member, but as a JW I feel I should defend myself. I really apologise if people feel threatened by us knocking on your door. If someone answers the door to me and says they are not interested, I leave it at that - what's the point of hassling someone who doesn't really give a damn what I'm there for? As for Bob's comment, I'm not sure I understand - I'm an organ donor too, what's the problem?
I do realise that some JWs are over enthusiastic about their beliefs but from what I've read here, that doesn't seem to be a crime when the shoe is on the other foot, as you all seem quite passionate about hating us. Just a thought.
fakeplastic... by the time they reached you in the wilds,,,they had to catch their breath..pretending they were a delightfull couple is an act ..they want you to believe they are nice so you may be tempted to give them the time of day...do you know as a female if you were a witness you are second rate to the men ..women have no rights or any part in decision making in a jehovah witness household,,and if you have no man then an elder is assigned as the head of your household and you then answer to him...us women are not going to be second rate citizens or answer to any man we have minds of our own thank you very much...mullein
amarillis...we dont feel threatend by you and none of us hate you we just dont see why you have to come and try to convert us .on our doorsteps interupting us at xmas.mealtimes etc..or even someone trying to sleep when they have been on nights..if you all want to sit down the kingdom hall like a bunch of sheep brain washed then thats fine ,,just dont expect us to want to participate as we have minds of our own,,and if you are asked not to call then dont ...mullein
mullein where are you getting your information? I am a female and I have every right to make decisions in my household. I am unmarried and don't live with my parents, but that doesn't mean I have an elder 'assigned' to me! I am not regarded as a second rate citizen - I am on a level footing with everyone else, be they male or female.
In all fairness they're just doing the missionary thing, like the christians except without all that persecution and bloodshed. You know that Russia actually made them illegal?
I used to date one, and he was the biggest a**hole I've known. The others I knew though were quite easy-going and compassionate people. They're very faithful , but I guess when you get to that level of dedication to your religion the highs are very high and the lows are very low. Just like the Catholics, Muslims, and various others.

When I was about 14 or 15 I was 'hassled' by a group of JWs. It started shortly after a grandparent died and a couple of harmless looking old ladies called on our door at home and I naively starting talking to them and telling them about my grandad as I was still very upset about it. I just thought there were a couple of kind old ladies doing some sort of charity work. On their second visit they gave me some of their literature to read and it was then that I realised they were JW. On their third visit, I politely said I wasn't interested but a couple of weeks later other JWs would start visiting, hanging around outside my front gate waiting for me to get home from school! They always visted between 3.30pm and 5.00pm because they knew I was home alone between those times. I was brought up to respect my elders and was too polite and too shy at the time to tell them where to get off so I had to tell my mum and dad about it as it was upsetting me. Needless to say, mum sorted them out but Iooking back it was such a manipulative way to try to recruit someone. It was obvious I was young as most times they saw me I was in school uniform and they played on the fact that I had just lost a grandparent.
The only difference being Yinzer, as far as I know and have experienced, only JW's preach on your doorstep. It's not like a local Church that may drop a leaflet inviting you for a cup of tea, a jumble sale, a collection, etc.
Amarillis, I hope I haven't in any way offended you and if only there were more JW's like you then this Q would probably not have even been posted! I hope more followers realise that by treating people the way you do will earn them more respect, and listeners no doubt, than enforcing themselves on people at home with their families, or on their feeling already vulnerable. However passionate we may be about "hating" you (which I don't), we don't knock on your door to tell you to do things!
amarillis..i have known some witnesses as friends when i lived in another area..are you trying to tell me their are female elders..having the final say? i think not..elders are their to guide you and you are answerable to them in any case the question i posed was why do you lot keep knocking on our doors. trying to take our free will away..if we want to come to the kingdom hall then i am sure you will find we are quite capable of getting their ourselves...their is no hate in my question and everyone that has answered is not full of hate either they are just expressing their own free will..and by the way i know someone that is a jehovah witness and her husband is ex jehovah because he did something naughty and was thrown out,,and she is guided and helped by the elders so what i am saying is fact...if anyone disputes this then search jehovah witness on internet and see for yourselves all the rules and regulations and scandals...mullein
anyone know how to post a link from the JW website to this?? I agree, and know one or two JW's socially and those are nice people; but anyone who has ever experienced the unpleasant doorsteppers (and they do exist) will know how annoying/worrying/frightening this can be. I wouldn't go so far as to say that their church encourages them to be this way, but they certainly don't appear to disapprove of it ot try to control it!!

At least I'm able to take this in good humour though, as I realise there is a lot of confusion and incorrect information floating around about us. I know a lot of people find it irritating that we call on xmas or other religious holidays - what can I say? There will always be people that are offended by others who are different.

amarillis... i know very well where your web site is its better if everyone does a search and reads the sites of ex witnesses ..see the other side of the coin...my comment about except shoot them was a joke ...i have no intention of sitting in a prison cell because i shot a witness,,,maybe i come across as harsh but i take as i find regarding all races and religions,,i am basically a fair person,,,i am a clairvoyant and have worked for many years in that proffession..i have had many people thank me for helping them in their time of need..and i know you believe it is the devils work,,,so shall i come to your door and give you a reading and contact some of your deceased relations that may have a message for you...i think not because if you dont believe in it then i wouldnt waste my time or energy trying to brain wash you so i am sorry if i sound harsh but you really havnt got a sense of humour,,,you believe you are right because you are brain washed into it..and thats fine by me as i can believe in whatever as i am free...mullein
natalie... i gave you 3 stars because you think like me you are without hate..but you also agree with me that they dont need to knock on doors trying to get some in.....as like i said if we want to go then we can attend the kingdom hall ourselves its open to everyone..and we dont have to be disturbed in our homes by them ...they are as bad as double glazing salesmen...mullein
A fair while back I was a student in Manchester. 8am on a saturday, my housemate had got up to answer the door, to 2 JWs. They had asked if they could come in for a while and he said yes, and showed them into the living room. He then went back to bed. They were still sat there nearly 2 hours later when I got up and staggered in with my brekkie! It was all a bit wierd for me so I went to get my housemate to get rid of them. I have to say they were perfectly polite and left though they never came back.
It strikes me that the types that Jenky just mentioned, as have others, that some JW's are just detached from other human activity, which is where I think people begin thinking that they act like they are part of some sort of cult in that they do not accept that there are other religions, faiths, beliefs, etc. and cannot accept that some people really are not interested in what they have to say. I can honestly say that if it wasn't pushed upon me I would be far more likely to research it for myself.
Amarillis, for example, can totally accept that other people have different beliefs to her own and is not forcing hers upon us, merely giving another viewpoint.
Going off the point a little.... Mullein, are you male/ female I'm getting a little confused. You talk about Mullein like he/she isn't you then say it is you. Maybe, I'm not reading things correctly.
Blimey you lot do keep my busy reading, interesting thread though. I remember about 2 years ago 2 JW's came to our door and i was like so which bible are you talking about out of 5000 or so that there are? They looked at me and laughed. I replied 'i am not joking, which one is it then?' without a smile what so ever they got the message and wandered off down the road hence why we have had none since probably.....
natalie...mullein is female probably because i am so outspoken i probably come over as masculine...honest i am all female not a cross dresser or anything as such...reading all your comments has been really interesting...and i once went to a kingdom hall with a friend of ours that was one and i was bored rigid..so half way through i escaped and sat outside having a smoke waiting for my husband who was still inside...its not for me..as i said i have done a search and read all the panarama programme on them reports and read the ex witness forums and i am even less impressed...but those that want to be one well thats their choice...i still think they should be banned from doorstep visiting...as allthough its a free country we do own our own doorsteps... if they visit this xmas well i shall have to ask them if they want to pull a cracker you never know they may enjoy themselves... just one last thing i have seen them wheeling kids around the streets also crying and whinging as you all say the kids should be at home playing in the warmth...mullein
