what a strange question! I don't expect to catch Tourettes while I'm out ;o)
maybe it's a fear of the unknown. if someone shouted or swore at me, I would probably be scared. if I knew it was due to Tourettes, it's not half as scary.
i can see how it could be, ie with severe tourrettes causing involuntary verbal outbursts of swearing.
But general slight ticks and the usual symptoms, nope.
Tourettes isnt always swearing. More cases are just ticks, and there are very few tourettes sufferers that actually swear. This is seen in the most severe case. Seems having people on tv like pete and john effects peoples perception of tourettes
No, there's a chap here that has it and he makes a lot of noises and has nervous ticks which just makes me feel bad for him because obviously people turn around and stare when they hear that.
As to those that perhaps do swear, no, that's not scary either as I'd probably just assume the same as I would about anyone who swears at total strangers which is they're just a very rude, ignorant person. I'd be mistaken obviously but it wouldn't scare me.
my mates little boy has had ticks for years and he has only just been diagnosed. The very first doc he saw said 'he cant have tourettes as he's such a polite boy' What an idiot
In Blackpool hospital there used to be a porter who had Tourette's Syndrome.I was wheeled to the x-ray dept by him on a few occasions and it was funny, embarrassing and quite scary all at once.He would all of a sudden shout out "w@nker or "< i>b@stard" quite loudly and people stopped and stared openly at him (_) He also made yelping noises and twitched quite violently...which of course made for a very bumpy wheelchair ride.He no longer works there and I often wonder how he's doing as I know some people can be very cruel to people with Tourette's
