I think Leg is correct about the term
"jerk"
As I understand it, the term is supposed to refer to the motion involved (although I would expect the odd complaint if any of us offered a truly "jerky" experience).
The verb "to jerk" and the noun "jerk" (as in, "having a quick jerk") have also become transposed to become a term of abuse (as in, "he's a bit of a jerk").
Which is odd, really.
Given that guys all like a jerk (yes, you do!) and it's nice to give one ...
... why is a nice thing also a term of abuse?
It would be rather like saying ...
God, that guy's a real climax
or
God, that guy is such a bar of Galaxy
