Why do we circumcise boys

At the age now of 74 now, I have always wondered why do we have foreskins cut off on boys. If we are born with it, I cannot see why it needs to be removed. Maybe this question is for a doctor to answer. I have always been a cavalier and not a roundhead.

Well the Jews do it as a religeous thing but others do it because of infections. You can harbour lot's of germs in it.

At the risk of returning this back on topic...

One of my best friends is circumcised, he was "done" because his foreskin was apparently too tight and had he not had it removed, would have either had extremely painful erections or wouldn't have been able to at all.
