Over the last ten years or so my memory has become terrible, to the point where I forget my partner who I live with name. I go upstairs and forget why, I know alot of people have poor memory but mine is consistently terrible and it is getting worse. I have always put it down to being on prescription drugs for alot of my life, maybe I am wrong. I have noticed now in the last year, that my speech is getting bad too. I slur my words and I say the words completely wrong, not all the time but it has increasingly got worse of late. I work talking to people most of the day and it gets embarrassing. Even my typing has gotten worse, spelling has never been an issue for me, I have to spell check everything now. I cannot see a pattern like tiredness etc to it. I have no medical issues really aside form joint pain of late due to a couple of accidents in the last year. I am only 26 years old. I don't want to waste the docs time or make something out of nothing, but my partner mentioned it the other day as he has noticed it increasing. What do you guys think?

see your doc asap
go and see your g.p,
i get forgetful when i`m tired but nothing like you are experiencing.
Ditto - you're not being silly - go to the Dr. Good luck, K x
There may be many reasons for this, but you won't know until you get a proper diagnosis.... as Prudentia and swanko have said, go and see the doc. Don't start thinking about it, just go!
Sounds really bad. I don't mean to worry you, but take the advice given by the others and see your doctor as soon as possible. And I don't mean to be nosy, but I would be interested in what the doc says, if you want to make another post at any other time regarding this? Good Luck

You mentioned prescription drugs. Remember that they can have side effects. Speak to your doctor.

You're too young to be senile, but it can be fun to let people think you are!

Hope you find out what's wrong. Good luck.
What prescription drugs are you on?
I know that you are very young to have memory loss to this extent, take the advice of all those above & see your medical practitioner. Also start eating blueberries with breakfast every morning, I am 84 years of age & have been eating blueberries with my cereal every day for the last 6 months & have found a great improvement to my memory. I do hope you will soon improve.Ron XX.
Like Sqad says, what drugs are you on ?

Get to the GP - you are very young to be having this affect your life.
my partners friend was on drugs for crohns disease and the side effect of the drugs were very similar to what you have described, he got so bad that he could barely drive and started having panic attacks in crowded places

the side effects outweighed the effectiveness to his condition so he stopped taking them, his doctor gave him something different which made a massive difference, he is virtually back to his old self!

Hello, thanks for the responses. I am no longer on medication, I take the occassional painkiller due to the bad break I had earlier in the year. I was on anti-depressants for panic attacks and depression for quite a few years, tried maybe 10 different ones and they never really helped - just made me ill alot. These days as I say I am prescribed pain medication but I don't take them often as they make even dozier than usual.
Aged 26yrs old with the symptoms that you have described, you need referral to a Neurologist.

See you GP.
