Liothyronine sodium v Levothyroxine sodium question

Hi

Has anyone else been on the above tablets?

I have been taking 60mcg of liothyronine daily for about 4 years and have just had it changed to 200mcg of levothyroxine daily.

I have been taking this for nearly a fortnight and actually feel worse!!

I am seriously tired, have a low grade headache most of the time and have an upset stomach.

The worst is a very odd feeling which is difficult to describe but I will try - when I lay down or close my eyes (sitting up) and move my head I feel as though it moves in slow motion.

I am going to the GP next week but wondered if this had happened to anyone else?

I've been on thyroxin since 1987 and levothyroxine for about 6 years, before that it was eltroxin, it's fine, no problems.

I've never heard of Liothyronine before? I am on thyroxine, I never feel fully energetic, well may be for a short time in the day. May be sqad can be of help. I sometimes wonder whether there are poor & better quality prescription drugs handed to us although sqad reckons not.

That's a huge leap in your thyroid medication in one go .I take Levothyroxine .
Did you have a blood test before they upped it to 200mcg ?
They normally up it by 25mcg each time but only after repeated tests to get the levels right .I started on 75mcg and it was very gradually increased with repeated tests to 125mcg . Doesn't sound right to me .Go back to your GP asap. I wouldn't wait until next week .Hope you soon get it sorted and feel OK again .

Liothyronine, eltroxin, levthyroxine, Eutirox, are basically the same thing.

60micrograms is a MINUTE dose....were you prescribed this by yr GP after a blood test.

As shaney said, from 60 to 200mcgms is a HUGE jump. Who sanctioned this and why?

Drop your dose immediately to 100mcgms and see you GP for an explanation

liothyronine is a much stronger version of thyroxine so the 200mcg is probably the equavalent of the 60mcg of liothyronine.

make sure your t4, t3 and tsh levels are taken, sometimes doctors to prefer to use levothyroxine because it costs pennies unlike liothyronine. I would complain if I were you.

some people function happily with thyroxine and some people dont, this really should be referred to your endocrinologist to investigate

cazz is quite correct 60mcgms of liothyronine is equivalent to 200mcgms ot thyroxine.

So the dose of thyroxine is exactly the same as the dose of liothyronine that your DR. has prescribed.

Ignore my previous answer and make an appt for Thyroid Function tests.

I always thought that I would feel better on thyroxine and am disappointed that I don't.
