Nail on big toe has come away and hurts!!!!

I went jogging last week and when I came back I noticed that my big toe was really saw. After investigation, it looked like the nail has come away from the bed and its gone a dark colour underneath.

I wanted to go to the quacks to get it checked over but they had no appointments until this week!

Anyway at the weekend I feel up some stairs and the nail has come off even more!!!

Any advice as to what I should do to treat this myself as I can't get to see a doctor until the end of the week?

Bandage or plaster it to protect it and good luck - sounds revolting!

The most important thing is to keep the area scrupulousy clean to avoid infection.Strap the nail down to the nail bed using tubigrip(for fingers and toes) and medical tape but don't have the strapping too tight as circulation may be impaired and cause further damage.
