I am 33 single and have a decent paid job that bores me, a mortgage and a nice house. I am so utterly bored i feel like crying....I went to see a hypnotherapist/counsellor but didn't make me feel any better or more confident. All my friends have moved away or coupled up so i joined a couple of socialising groups and have tried hard to make new friends - and i have made a few but nothing amazing. I really want to jack it all in and go away for a year but am worried about going alone and more worried about what i will do for a job when i get back...there are not a lot of jobs in what i do. i then think i could find myself another career but i literally have no idea what to do - i don't have any passions....i know that only i can make myself better and turn it all around but i seriously don't know where to start. any ideas much appreciated. ps i am not being self pitying - i just wonder if there is more to life than this.

I have a few friends who got jobs abroad teaching English as a foreign language. You don't need to speak another language to do it as you are teaching more advanced students. They've worked in places like Japan, Spain and Canada and ended up emigrating permanently, meeting lots of new people and making what appear to be great lives for themselves. I know it may be depression, but sometimes a change of scene can be a great lift (I suffered from severe depression for a few years so I'm not being blase and telling you you need a good shake). You're young, you have no major ties to hold you back - it might be worthwhile giving it a go while you can, it might just be the best descision you ever make. Good luck x
I think you are lucky, have you ever thought what it is like to have ill health and needed someone to help you use the toilet or even had to feed you at a young age. Have you ever been out of work for over a year and had to depend on your parents to support you. I wish I owed my own house at your age. Have you ever been around anyone who had nothing and could not afford anything to eat except porridge for lunch dinner or breakfast, when they had porridge or just tea and biscut? I would not advise you to go away on your own, you are not mentally ready for that. you need to focus your life on helping others less fortunate than you. There is an organisation called 'Plan International' you become a foster parent to children overseas who are having it hard just to go school or even get clean water on a daily basis, them and their family. Things have happened in my life that was not nice I left England in 1997. Just decided to live overseas but I have always suffered with ill health at one stage I was scourned I have faced near death, I have nearly lived on the street but at that point my parents had joined me overseas. I was nearly raped on more than one occassion by different people the list goes on . My life has been such an adventure in all the things i didn't think it would be. Sometimes the simple life is the best until it changes DON'T fource it! My life has been so strange I have now change my job to become a 'writer.'
