Dont know where to put this question - i will try here - forgive me for my stupidity - but why do judges etc in a court wear wigs. What is the point of them. Thanks for your replies

Probably because they don't have any Hair of their own ! I wear a Wig but it becomes a problem in windy weather as I have to wear a chin strap with it, otherwise it would just fly away ! ;-)

a symbol of the office. the original purpose of the legal wig was said to provide a form of anonymity and safety (i.e. disguise) today is just a part of court dress, i.e. tradition.

LOL craft ! As we get older we need a Wig for nether region as well especially in cold weather ! My longjohns hold that up !! :-)
