this really upset me- just looking for a moan!

Shes 6...attended a special needs nursery as her speech was a little slow..also her attention span is shot to peices!!

Went to a mainstream school- was kept back a year by the way....SO...isnt settling in very well..cant sit for periods of time..etc etc..disrupting class...im 1st to admit she would b a teachers night mare....im sure that she has mabye a wee something wrong that needs a bit more attention.....

she was kept in alone at playtimes and not allowed out :0(
then was allowed out supervised....thought that was a bit harsh on her 2nd week at school

its been decided she has to go back to special needs school- were upset but i know myself its in her best interests....kids hav been saying nasty things to her brothers (ages 10 and 8)
because shes on the "special bus"- kids eh
BUT what really enraged me is...she kicked off in the school yard and the older one aged 10 went over to the classroom assistant and said thats my sister (the boys are unaware of the fact she will b leaving the school) and this daft assistant shouts "oh is this your sister- she wil b getting kicked out of this school for bad behaviour" - cue waterworks..he cried his heart out...teacher couldnt console him..begged to be allowed to go to the primary 1 class to see her...and was allowed when he got there she was covered in yoghurt....poor wee guy..he got paper tissues and wiped her all up...that bit reduced me to tears!!!! what a lovely wee boy if i do say so myself...the boys got glowing reports
just so sad really!
rant over! xxxxxxxx

The classroom assistant needs to be reported for that comment to the little boy. She should not be divulging any information, even to family members without express permission of the headteacher. I would be writing to the education authority and demand that she be reprimanded and reminded of her role in the school.

Your little cousin will probably blossom in the special school, they are far better equipped to deal with her problems than a mainstream school could ever hope to be.

thanks sara!! i know he was so upset the wee thing...but there was a great change with the change of nurseries so im sure schooling will be the same! xx
You have every right for your rant - I was annoyed myself I felt like marching up to that school myself and that "Classroom Assistant" needs hauling over the coals for that nasty uncalled for comment. Whats with the yoghurt? where was the teacher? poor little mite. That school needs reporting. (Perhaps the local papers would be interested in the story) I hope the path ahead will be a lot smoother for her. Love from aunty Jem. x

thanks jem...yeah i know the yoghurt...didnt think kids ate in class....it made me feel like they are treating her as a loss already....really annoyed me im still annoyed haha

thanks aunty jem xxxxxx
This sounds like really bad practice, the school should be doing everything they can to include your cousin in the school before deciding she should be sent to a special school and it just doesn't sound like they're doing this. And if it's only a small problem she certainly shouldn't need to go to a special school. Has she been through the process of identifying her as having a special educational need?
