How does one become registered disabled? Is it just a matter of getting a blue badge for your car or is there something else?

Toureman, there is no such thing as 'registered disabled' any longer, read the messages in the link in my previous post and you will see that it was phased out several years ago.
Yes you can get a blue badge without being in receipt of any benefit,my mother in law has one and has never claimed for or received any disability benefits.

Your doctor knows your history, talk to him/her you will be given a form to fill in (there are people to help you do this too) it can be long and complicated. It took me 3 years of form filling, I kept getting refusal letters do not give up challenge them even if you have to go in front of a tribunal do it. You must persevere, Your doc. also will give you a form to get a 'Blue Badge' Do not give up... when your benifit comes through it will be back-dated.

I presume slinkykate it was for the Blue Badge you only waited a couple of weeks (here too Eng. 2 photo's are needed) and yes only a couple of weeks wait.
Its the "Carers Allowence" they call it these days that takes all the time. I had diabetis, bowel cancer, arthritis in both hips, retinopathy, and took 12 tablets a day to keep me going. can only get about in a buggy or wheelchair and they still knocked me back 3 times. A stiff letter from my doc gave them a sharp kick up the Kyber & was the only thing that moved them, and I still only get the lower benifit.
Sooo once again scarlett persevere....Aunty Jem.

Yes I have a blue badge- that was easy. I was trying to get help for when I go to university; I wanted the university to help with accommodation close to the campus. They just wanted to know if I was registered disabled! And if I had housing benefit. Thing is, I am still working. I can still sit at a piano and teach, I just can't walk. So if I am to do my course, I need to be housed close to the campus so I can get in without paying too much in cab fare. But without that "piece of paper" - which I now see doesn't exist (!) they are not helpful.
Well ok Daffy no need to throw your toys out of the pram. Sooo we misunderstood, we all were trying to help the poor girl. In the meantime she probably learnt a few things about the system and knows too we all want to help. Lets hope you won't ever want a friendly bunch of people to help you. Perhaps they won't be so forthcoming. Sorry Scarlett we couldn't help you out. Aunty Jem.
