Muscle tension in neck & shoulder = one shoulder higher than other
4 Answers
I've just noticed that one shoulder is quite a bit higher than the other. I know it's nothing serious like scoliosis because I used to see a chiropractor. My shoulder/neck is so tense and hard, it feels like a rock. There is no give in it at all. I sometimes have headaches from it too. Am going to docs about it this week, do you think they'll just refer me for physio? When I used to see a chiropractor, he was great and made me lie on heat pads so it really helped but this was a couple of years ago. If I could afford it, I'd definitely go back. Anyone else had the same prob or any tips/advice that would help? Thanks

when I had physio I discovered that driving with just one hand on the steering wheel (oops!) affected my posture.

Try an ice pack for ten minutes followed by a heat pad for ten minutes. The ice pack will take down any inflamation and the heat pad will ease the discomfort and relax the area. Have you got someone who can massage your shoulder for you? It really helps to get rid of the 'knotting' in the muscles.
A bag of frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel makes a good ice pack. Make sure you only use the peas for this purpose and don't eat them. You can keep using them ad infinitum. Those wheat pads as Sarah suggests are great. Try rotating your shoulders gently after you have used the hot and cold treatment and gently move your neck around, first to the right and then to the left and slightly forward and back. Dont try a complete rotating movement though.
Good luck.

do u have a baby or use your phone by holding it to your ear with your shoulder? I have the same problem. Do u get shooting pains right up the muscle into your neck. Ive been going to have back massages every week. Its really helping. I have alot of tension from carrying my little boy around with my left side. If you cant afford massages contact your local health and beauty college and you can normally get it done by a student at a discounted price, or get an empty roll on deoderant and just getley massage it yourself with that
