Notorious fraudster Paul "King Con" Lady has been jailed for three years after swindling women victims he met through lonely hearts columns. Northampton-born Lady, aged 47, and of no fixed address, spoke of a 30-year criminal career during a trial at London's Southwark Crown Court and was convicted of his 155th crime last week.
His scams over the years included treating patients after conning his way into hospitals, pretending to be Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer, QC, posing as a lawyer and claiming to be friends with James Bond star Pierce Brosnan. Lady was also banned from driving for two years and, when paroled, will have to use the name Paul Lady. Lady was once described by a barrister as making "Walter Mitty look like a nine o'clock news reader", and began conning people when he was just a child. Not only does he now have 155 convictions, he asked the court to take 350 other offences into consideration.
