Why do people 'renew' their marriage vows?
17 Answers
Can someone who has done this tell me what their reasoning is?
When I married I vowed 'to love and cherish from this day forward, etc', that vow did not have a time limit ie until we have been together for 20 years and then needs to be 'renewed' if still valid.
Why get married if the vows that are taken are not true?
I hope someone can explain this to me. Thanks

i think its just to remind one another of that vow. I intend to, IF i ever do get married as its a tricky thing to do, to do the ame and renew the vows...not as in a wedding every bloody year, just a renewal of the vov...its not because i never ould have mant them to begin with...ut i think its o you dont forget just how important they really are. people get lot in married life, they forget itssomething that needs continous watering for example..because you change, things change and i think renewing the vows for some pople like myself willkeepthem grouded and not foretthe commitment they made to one another.
does that make sense?

Me and Mr Bagpuss have renewed our vows. When we got married, due to family circumstances, we did not tell anyone that we had done it. We did it for us and so none of our family and friends were present. We renewed our vows after 5 years and this was so that our friends and family could be present and enjoy the moment with us.
my thoughts exactly - do the couple wear their original wedding outfits & re-iterate speeches...such a palavar!
